After just barely glancing at few other posts about this, now my connection to sysopt is sssllllloooowwwwww. Just at this site, too. Guys, it's time to defrag your servers.

Update: 10 AM EDT -- Sysopt loading well. Here's a TRACERT:
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=663499&a=7136499&p=24172876&Sequence=0

This TRACERT was performed during a very "slow" session @ 3 PM EDT:

I was going to say the same thing, you took the words right outa my mouth tho, I have cable modem and all other sites load really fast but sysopt is very slow lately, what's up with that?

You guy must be using it at busy hours and your ISP maybe clogged up with too many users
I use to have this problem too
Now is fast 24hrs a day.
Don't have that problem anymore since I switched to a Free ISP.
Fast, Clean and alway a connect first time.
With MSN, sometime I would hear operator or get busy signal.

I'm getting good pings and fast loading pages here in Utah

This gets brought up every once in a while, and I've got the same problem it seems. I've got cable too, and while all the other sites I go to load up quickly, SysOpt takes forever and actually locks right up sometimes. It's actually been pretty bad for about the last week or so for me. How come??????

Do a trace route and ping check...It could be that your being connected to Sysopt thru some slow routers along the way.. Every so often this happens to me too but for the most part it's pretty stable for me

with this newest version of IE the small edit and profile buttons appear HUGE on the screen for a split second and then shrink to the correct size whenever I open up a post..kinda wierd http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I noticed it on the weekend too. I have cable also.

Yep this weekend it was slow for me to.
Some times it took me 5 min. to download a page.
Did some ping checks and it was about 200 ms
and that's normal for me because i am from the netherlands and running cable.
Maybe this board rules and there are many hits in the weekend.
At this moment it runs great.

Sysopt guys, I edited my original message & inserted a Tracert when connection speed was good. I dunno if any clues can be gleaned from Tracert -- I'll insert another image in when connection is slow.

Dag-gone Sysopt, I'm trying to discover a connection bottleneck & now it won't connect slow! Just like taking your car to the mechanic & THEN it'll run fine.

SysOpt was so sslllooowwww this weekend that I did not bother with it. It is SysOpt ONLY that gets so impossibly slow. I never have any problems with any other site while SysOpt is being difficult. With all the brains around here, can't someone figure it out?

I am confused. What do your tracert's show? They don't look bad to me. The first oen @ 10am shows that AOL was slow (surprise). I am on cable and don't really notice any lag times. Try changing your "show Topics from last ## days" to soemthign smaller.

I ran tracert 5 times and it shows a bottle neck on the globix.net servers.
Maybe we should have someone check into them and nudge them a little to "fix" the slow down.

I don't really mind, since it only happens to me 3 - 4 times a month and no more than once on a good month.

Im a broadband user.. BTW, its the kinda "get up and go make urself a sandwich" kinda slow.

Have you checked with your ISP to see if they have purged their Cache lately? If their Cached web pages have grown greatly it will slow down their "serving" you as there is more pages it has to check before "fetching" the page for you! I would venture a guess that the slow down is on your isp's server's side.

MntSnow, seems to me traffic related. For ex. -- early morning is fast, but later becomes slow -- every day. I can set IE to "bypass" the Aol proxy servers -- that would tell. Usually using the proxy servers speeds things up, at least right at the beginning of a data transfer. This makes browsing faster, but only helps file downloads in the first 5-15 seconds -- then down to the usual speed. I'll experiment some more.

BFlurie
07-12-2000, 07:43 PM
By God, Mntsnow -- maybe you really ARE a genuis! I set IE to bypass Aol's proxy servers, & it looks promising. Still need to experiment more to confirm it.

Beginning to think you nailed it, Mntsnow -- general browsing is alittle slower w/AOL proxies bypassed, but no more Sysopt "slow downs".

I have a few questions for you guys:

-when you say sysopt is slow, do you mean it says "contacting..." in your browser and it just sits there, or does it start loading content and it loads it for a long time, or something else?

-when you say sysopt is slow compared to other sites, are you comparing it with other earthweb sites? you can try loading www.datamation.com (http://www.datamation.com) or www.developer.com, (http://www.developer.com,) and compare the speed with sysopt

-anything else you can think of will be helpfull, for example traceroutes, what time of a day is the site slower, etc..

Thanks.

But it's no slower than Anandtech. Try ARS Technica forum. It is fast and there's lots of good stuff goin' on over there.
