I just recently switched to DSL. The download speed is great. I get about 1.0 Mbps. However, I notice that when i type in another URL, It takes atles a good minute or so before it attemps to find the site. This occurs even on big sites like yahoo, google, etc.. I have my service through bell south. I have tried running traceroute to the big sites and there is no problem with that. Any Ideas????

Make sure your DNS entries are set properly for your ISP. If they are, try a different DNS.

Yeah, the ISP. Call them and ask for the DNS numbers. They should give you a primary and a secondary, each one should have four blocks of numbers, like this: 63.194.54.21

Then, if you're running Windows 95/98, go to start, settings, control panel, network, then double click on "TCP/IP" (if there are several TCP/IP entries, click on the one that has the name of your network card printed next to it, something like "ethernet", "NIC", "network interface card", etc.). Then click on the "DNS Configuration" tab, and make sure the DNS numbers that the ISP gave you are listed in the first block, and that the domain they should give you is entered in the top right as well.

My service is through Bell Atlantic and I was having the same problem using their software, try using plain IE. It works for me, good luck.

I have the same prob. when contacting a website. I'm using DSL through PacBell which uses SBI as the ISP.

Im also a DSL user, and this also happens to me.. Just quite rarely, but that does not seem to be the situation here.

When you contacted your ISP, did you let them know what the problem was before you asked for the DNS numbers? If so, what did they say?

I have found a soultion to the problem-- if you have more than 1 dial-up connection set in your dial up networking folder. It will cause your connection to slow down considerably when switching from one site to another. Delete all of the dial-up connections other than the 1 you are using for your DSL. The network manager for the ISP I have for my DSL told me this and it seems to have fixed the problem.
