I'm running AOL and recently I've been getting illegal operations from WAOL. It's something to do with URLMON.DLL I was wondering how I could fix this if possible without having to reload AOL 5.0. Or if I do have to reload AOL will I have to save all my favorite places, Address book and stuff and reload them? Thank you in advance.

Some simple things to try -- reregisting some key .dlls. Go to Start/ Run & type these lines in one at a time & hitting return:
Regsvr32.exe /i urlmon.dll
Regsvr32.exe /i mshtml.dll
Regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll
Regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll
Regsvr32.exe /i actxprxy.dll
Regsvr32.exe /i browseui.dll
Regsvr32.exe /i jsproxy.dll
It might help. The MSKB has a few articles mentioning AOL5 & IE5. Personally, I'll never use AOL5 cause it's buggy -- AOL4 is stable & simple comparitively. With AOL4 (probably the same w/AOL5), your favorites, screen names & mail info can be backed up by saving the /Aolxx/idb and /Aolxx/organize folders w/subfolders somewhere safe, then copying those back overtop after a reinstallation.

I have AOL and when I have a problem I go into a Help Chatroom and get help from AOL that way. They almost always have the right answers for you and how to do what you need to do. This is how you get there. Go to Keyword : Help. Then in the right box in the window that pops up click the link "Customer Service" and then click on the left "Contact Customer Service in Chat." On the right click "Technical" and click "Go There" in the box that pops up. A chatbox will open on thebottom of the page that loads and you just tell them what is going on and they will help you. I hope this helps.

I ran what you told me to in the and got this
DllRegisterServer and DLLinstall in (whatever).dll succeeded
But on Jsproxy.dll and actxprxy.dll
I got this message..
DllRegisterServer may not be exported or a corrupt version of (beforementioned).dll may be in memory consider using PView to detect and remove.
What exactly was performed by running Regsvr32.exe /i *****.dll 's and I wsa hoping you knew what the new "error" meant.
Thank you.

What this does is restore the registry data for a particular self-registering .dll. Sorry, I was wrong -- Jsproxy.dll isn't a self-registering .dll, so that's the message you'll get -- no problem. But Actxprxy.dll does self-register on my system -- I tried it & it succeeded. Try it again, making sure you spell it correctly. If it still doesn't work, then that's a problem. Since typically that file gets updated w/the IE5 installation, I suggest you run the IE5 repair option. However, you must have the IE5 installation cab files somewhere on your HD for this to work -- a folder named Windows Update Files or something-such. Go to Control Panel/ Add-remove programs/ IE5 and Internet Tools. Click add/remove. A dialog should come up w/an option to repair existing installation. Hope this helps.

Thanks for you help.. it seems to be working.. except now I get blue screens of death when I never did before... YIKES! But with your help I got rid of the Illegal Operations. I went to another forum and all I got was "get rid of AOL" blah blah blah, not much help. So thank you again.
PS I just ran the Internet Exploxer repair program.. so I'll see if that works... thanks.

What is "WAOL"? Is it an add-in for AOL?

I don't know what's going on but AOL updated itself tonight and I have been getting all sorts of lock up since. Not sure what the heck they are doing. Pretty much stinks!

Waol just stands for Windows AOL. Running Aol.exe leads directly to Waol.exe. There's a Maol.exe if you use MacIntosh.
Sweeper, as I stated above, AOL4 is stable & alot simpler than AOL5. Consider going back if you're getting too many errors.

I found a way to fix the illegal operation errors I was getting. My error involved the urlmon.dll and the kernel32.dll. I was getting illegal operation on AOL 5.0 with them while surfing the web. If you have that kind of problem a way to fix it may be to reinstall the .dll file. I was able to find a webpage with .dll files to download and it also has instructions on how to install. http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/
I would like to thank those who helped me fix my problems on this forum.
