Can you tell me how to delete the unchecked items in the startup area of Msconfig. Some of the programs are not needed, and I also have some duplicate ones.

they are in one of two areas. in your startup folder in teh start menu or in the registry under:
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\curr ent_version\run or run_services

The best way to clean something like this would be with a registry cleaning program because there are probably other problems that need to fixed.

ok as for the duplicates just check all boxes and restart that will wipe out duplicates and uninstalled programes. but there are some system startups that look like duplicates but are not and cant be removed only unchecked like load power profile, taskmonitor and such. if the program isn't uninstalled just uncheck it then you can always reactivate it later if you want it to run on startup but if one keeps showing up after unchecked look in start-programs-startup and delete it.

p.s. theres a great freeware that takes 15 sec to download from zdnet thats called startup cop that does all this better and more great program and its free.

Drill down through these directories in Windows Explorer; Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Disabled Start Up Items-- and delete them from here and they will be removed from the mscofig - Start Up tab.
Also take note if you want to remove from Start Up, Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up. This will do the trick for what you want to do.
