Just last month I was looking at the prices and Plextor/TDK were in $240s now they are in $140s. I though it was a deal of the day, but I checked pricewatch and alot of the stores have them for $140 and that's no rebate. They must have not been selling or something. This price came down fast.

I think it has a lot to do with the Double Density CDR Burners hitting the market. Soon it will be quad Density and octal Density, and the DVD manuf. will have no choice but to lower the cost per blank...

Yea I'm curious also. I haven't seen any yet. DVD blanks are $25 a piece. Might as well buy the original.

I believe that Sony came out with the DDCDR/CDRW technology.. puts twice as much on a blank CD.. haven't had the chance to see one in action yet but I hear it will be a good alternative to DVD-R/ DVD-RW..

Alternative to DVDR, as soon as the price of the media goes down. If yougo to www.ahead.de (http://www.ahead.de) the makers of Nero burning rom. they have a partial list buy you can download the newest version of nero and see if your burner can actually burn dvd. Go their and check it out. By the way, I have been using nero for a while and It just keeps getting better! The software has the ability to burn MP3pro tracks, which are essentially popcorn size mp3 files burnt onto regular cdr's that ANY cd player will play. Huh.

. In the near future, when mp3 CD players incorporate
the mp3PRO decoder, consumers will be able to store over 300 songs on an mp3PRO
encoded Compact Disc.
Even if you do not own a DVD-Recoder, you can test the DVD
support by burning DVD images which can be burnt on supported
DVD-recorders
