When I try to boot up normally to Win98 I get a notice of an error in the registry. If I allow Win98 to try to fix it, I get a loop that it's fixing it, then it has fixed it, restart. Same with using scanreg /fix in Command prompt only. Hit enter to restart and it happens all over again.
I can bypass that with F8 and get into win where I again get that message which I bypass using ctrl/alt/del. However.... when I get online, I cannot access the web on that machine.
<hanging head> I used the Win98 Update feature before, wanted to go to IE5. After a couple days of "crucial updates" this took me to IE5, which I downloaded & installed. Having problems with the registry & the web ever since. Trying to reach SysOpt gives me the automatic download window, same with Microsoft on that machine.
Do I have to reformat my C drive & start over, or is there an easier fix for this?
One more detail. When I use dos to look at this, I get: LDID is ffff Failed ChGetLdd
(followed by)
No volume name for LDID ffff, local cod4- path absolute.
