This morning's (San Jose) Mercury-News reports that Fry's Electronics is buying egghead.com and will continue to operate it.

Egghead's stock has dropped form $108 in 1998 to 3 cents yesterday. The article comments on how smart Fry's was to let others take the hit and to be able to buy for pennies on the dollar.

The deal that was nixed was for Cyberian Outpost. A competitor.

I never kept track. Is newegg.com related to egghead.com and if so how? I seem to read into your comment that newegg.com is egghead. I assumed it was a competitor...???

Yeah, I've had some bad experiences with Fry's. Once bought a vacuum cleaner at a very good price, supposedly new. When I got it home the dustbag was full of dirt and it had obviously been used. It'd not be so bad if they would move the return/exchange line a bit better. Too many people standing around not doing anything but talking.

They did refund money for me several times when I bought the machine I'm now using from them as a BYO and I probably, from all the pieces I bought, got $200 in price reductions during the ensuing 30 days. But had to stand in those blasted lines!
