Beaver, are you sure you're looking at the shipping right? Even Second Day Air is only $11 to Florida. And ground is less that $9. It doesn't seem it should be that more expensive to Oregon. Anyway, it's ordered and the rebate form is already filled out. Thanks again Doc!

I'd like to add a second line, but can't justify the expendature.
Here's a rundown of it at buy.com->>
"The SupraSonic II with Shotgun technology integrates two 56K modems on one board for speeds of up to 112K!
Plus, it's designed with the new 56K ITU standard (V.90) and K56flex for widespread ISP support.
The SupraSonic II works over two ordinary phone lines to deliver this amazing speed without monopolizing the use of your second phone line.
Featuring Voice Priority, the SupraSonic II "senses" incoming calls (voice, fax, etc.) and allows them to ring through on your second line.
It also allows the user to manually release or add a second phone line to the Internet connection by simply clicking on a software button"
My recollection is that you can't just plug this in and use it. You have to have an ISP that accommodates the use of two lines. It's been quite a while since I read about this scheme.
Maybe the cheap price indicates an idea that just didn't get the acceptance needed to make it worthwhile. Besides if you're going to pay for a second line and all you might find that total costs are less going to a more conventiional broadband connection if available.

Interesting. to my Oregon, 97005
UPS $11.12
2nd Day Air = $22.10
Next Day Air = $41.45
First Overnight = $68.25
I have to stay to see your guy to get it
i used to use this modem. it works well. you have to have an isp that supports shotgun tech. I know there is one in san antonio. diamond had a site that show who and where?
nice thing is this is a hardware modem and would be a great modem for that old pc you have laying around. isa slot. just dont use the 2nd modem @ all.
Also a friend of mine can't get bb access in the sticks but can get shotgun.
p.s. the software only works with win 95 but you can still download the win 98 version. but you don'thave to use the software @ all because win 98 will link two modems, only thing is the ring through drop a line feature will not work without the soft

Is Axiontech a good site, I'm sorry never heard of it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

yes, I have bought from them quite a bit. They are in houston which is about 2 hr from me. very quick shipping. I usually go with multiwave so I don't have to pay tax though since I live in texas. Axion seems to have about as good of prices

Read the 1 review by UnderAchiever at www.axiontech.com (http://www.axiontech.com) on this modem.
The Only Negative comment was that is is More sensitive to phone line surges/spikes than other modems...burned out 2 already.
Any suggestions on protecting it? Even for this price would hate to have it self destruct.

I work in the, err distribution area.
One thing for sure, spikes through the phone lines are much more common and more likely to damage electronics than spikes/surges through power lines.
So a UPS would be of NO benefit in this case.
The reason power lines do not transmit the spikes/surges caused by lightning or winds blowing conductors together is the have "Preferred" grounds and overvoltage sensors.
Granted no system is perfect and often times small surges will pass through, this is what the home surge protector is good for.
Some surge protectors carry large liabilty bonds to insure you if you are hit, make sure to get one that advertises "Lightning" protection, if it don't they may balk at replacing an expensive system.

my ups has phone line and cat 5 passthrough.

I can't see why it would be any more sensative to spikes? I use a ups , so I don't have that problem anymore. Wonder if they guy used even a surge protector?
I used mine for over a yr and have 2 friends using them now. no problems at the present.

The reply from my ISP today indicated I would need two Dial-up accounts for this to work and then proceeded to try to sell me DSL, which is not available here (from the phone line aspect). Even though my son and I have seperate accounts and could probably make this work, it sounds like a rip to me. Haven't heard from my phone company yet. I'll keep you posted.
satx.net has a shotgun account for 30$ last time i checked. Your isp has to support shotgun tech and you do have to have multiple log in. Some isp on the list cut you a break so you did not have to accually buy 2 full dialup accounts.
They used to have a link to look up to see who supports shotgun in your area. I can't find it, but you might be able to email tech support and get help.

Here is an ISP that supports Dual-56k (112k MLP) Dial Access http://www.linux-friendly-56k.com/
The information on the pages does not seem to be 112K specific though.
