I just "lucked" into an Alpha 433 Raptor Reflex system made by Deskstation (no longer in business)

Here is what i want to do, I want to put on a Version of Linux untill I can affored Tru64 Unix. Run Seti and Apache for a little webserver.

My problem, I can't figure out how to get it to boot from Floppy or CD.. If it didn't have NT already on it I would be up the crick.

If any one has a suggestion or knows where I can find a manual, printed or on the net, please let me know!

Thanks

Did you try booting from a windows 98 cd and doing the linux setup from the dos prompt? That is the only way I have ever been able to install linux on my old pentium system.

The one I got is accually a bit more on it, but the prices have dropped over the years. I've seen this particular version go for 7grand at a local store just 6 months ago, I would sell this one for $4,000 if I knew some one could use it better than I can.. maybe cheaper. (if someone is intrested mail me i'll give you more details)

But until then...

NT does not take full advantage of the 64bit power which, I think the Seti Times prove that, my PII350 is posting better times.

To put another OS such as Linux (eh, well better than NT) or Tru64 (the best for this situation) I need to figure out how the boot system goes, If I can i'm set. Since DeskStation went out of business, it is hard to find any info/manuals. I don't want to put money into an OS with out knowing if I can get it to work.

KillerBug - With out knowing how the boot works I can't boot to anything but the hard drive. And There is no Alpha version of dos and win9x will not run on an alpha with out an emulator x86 (don't think there is one anyway, if there was why would you want to?)

Any who, Thanks

You may be able to contact someone here. Just did a search on goto.com for your machine and this was the only like I had come up.
