This rebate link was only sent out to HP e-mail reciepents.

Somehow it got to the "Deals" search engines.

They may or may not honor the rebate if the item is NOT purchased through Hewlett Packard's on-line store

I just ordered the drive from CDW. It's not the rock bottom price that would be nice but still a reasonable deal since I was going to purchase a DVD drive and 8X will work fine for me and upgrade my CD-RW early model HP.

A CDW rep called me a few minutes ago saying that they like to verify orders made over the Internet by first time customers.

He claims they are the largest HP autorized dealer and says they are out of stock right now but are due July 31 and will ship within 2 days of receipt.

I just talked to PCNation.com - the drives are on backorder. He asked me if I was trying to get the rebate - lots of people have been asking about that. It turns out that PCNation.com is indeed an official HP reseller/distributor! He said I could definitely get the rebate. They should get their next shipment in before the end of the month.
