THis is HP's new offering in scanners, 3D imaging.
I don't know how far away from the bed it works, but the numbers look good.

Doc, my first scanner was a Umax Astra 600P and I didn't think it was anything special until I bought a Visoneer because it was a USB and I need to free some IRQ's. That's when I realized that all scanners didn't do legal size and I've been in a bind ever since. I had given the Umax to my son to use and now it no longer works. If you see a decent one any time soon that will do the legal size at a decent price please advise and TIA.

I think the "3D" thing is merely saying that you can place objects on top. In otherwords they're advertising what we all know about flat bed devices...???...!!!

My nearly 3 year old Visioneer scanner works to perhaps half an inch on "3D" items after a bit of software sharpening.
