Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : i'm looking to get an abit k7ta and athlon 1.2 (266) shocksyde 06-15-2001, 03:20 PM anyone know a good place to get this combo? thanks for any help in advance... bill1971 06-15-2001, 06:16 PM Shock: Here's my 2 cents, after placing many on-line orders & scouring the net for good pricing and at least decent,(>5.0), ratings at www.resellerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com) I've found: Abit KT7A at www.microbarn.com (http://www.microbarn.com) out of Raleigh,NC for $104 + $10-$12 shipping UPS Ground. I've been buying PIII(retail box) & Athlon 1.2GHz(266)(OEM)from www.TCWO.com (http://www.TCWO.com) out of Tampa,FL for $119 + $7 UPS Ground(for any amt you purchase up to 150 lbs.)Add a $9.00 heatsink/fan to get a 1 year warranty, which is much better than the 15-30 day warranties given by the lower-priced vendors. Some of my other favorite places to shop include www.essencom.com (http://www.essencom.com) (NY)for good mobo prices, also www.Directron.com (http://www.Directron.com) (Houston,TX), for some cases/power supplies,& misc., www.Newegg.com (http://www.Newegg.com) (CA), for mobos,CardExpert GeForce2 MX video cards, etc. I hope this helps. shocksyde 06-15-2001, 08:56 PM could that be classified as the best first-post ever? hot ****! i feel like i should pay you for that or something http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. thanks for the tips man, i'll check it all out tomorrow. bill1971 06-16-2001, 10:34 AM Glad if I've helped,Shock. I do find myself spending hours scouring the net for best pricing from decent vendors w/decent shipping rates. Funny that, out of the dozen or so mobos and CPU's that I've purchased,I've never run across "combo pricing" that I couldn't beat by ordering from two vendors, even after adjusting for the add'l shipping charges. If you're looking for good SDRAM, you can't beat www.crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com) right now, where you get 256MB PC133 w/free Fedex 2-3 day shipping for $59.39 . I mentioned the CardExpert MX video card, based on the consistently high ratings given to it by PC World. At $109 it places second only to the All-IN-Wonder Radeon. When in stock,www.Newegg.com has been selling the retail box for $55 + $8? Fedex 2-3 day shpg. They also have an Enlight case that I use a lot,(En7237 w/300 watt PS,$50 + $15 Fedex Saver) - you'll need it to drive that power hungry Athlon. That case comes with a front fan already installed.I like the clean straight lines and rails mounted to your DVD or CD-RW drives. Another case I like is the Antec 300WATT. I'll shut up now.Good luck with your system. - Bill shocksyde 06-16-2001, 11:42 AM no need to shutup, you sir are a fountain of information! i'm prolly gonna end up getting that enlight case too, cause of you. **** where does all the money go... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif thanks for the help. bill1971 06-18-2001, 08:07 AM Shock: Thanks for the ego pump! To maybe throw a wrench in the works,I was looking at www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) yesterday. It seems that, looking at limited reviews by some people who have bought it,it looks like the MSI K7 "Master" mobo, which uses DDR RAM is getting rave reviews. At $148,it might be stretching your budget vs. the Abit, although it seems to be out of stock right now. The Crucial PC2100 DDR RAM is still the same price as the PC133.(256MB=$59.39) If you need a nice big 19" monitor on the cheap,(relatively speaking),check my post on the KDS VS190i.The $20 part of the rebate is over, but it looks like it might come around again in a week or so.(Office Depot). I hope I get to start on my new system this week: Athlon 1.33GHz(266) Asus A7M266 DDR mobo 512MB Crucial PC100 DDR RAM 60GB IBM Hard Drive Lian Li aluminum case w/front USB ports Enermax 431 watt power supply All-in-Wonder Radeon Soundblaster Live 5.1 Klipsch ProMedia-400 sound Plextor 16/10/40 Burner Samsung 955DF 19" monitor Hitachi 12x DVD I AM SO-O-O-O BROKE!!!!!!I AM A SLAVE TO CITIBANK!! Once again, good luck.Let me know if I can be of any further help: bill1971@charter.net shocksyde 06-18-2001, 09:44 PM dude, you are gonna looooooove the klipsches (i'm assuming this will be your first pair). oh man how i love pissing people off in my college dorm, mwahahahahah! looks like i found an abit kt7a-raid board for only 80 dollars shipped!!! (from hardocp for sale forum)...now the search continues for a 1.2 tbird... bill1971 06-19-2001, 05:26 AM Shock: I've had my Klipsch's w/the 4 satellites and subwoofer since last July.Had to order them direct,(waiting list,at the time!). Have been blowing people away ever since!! Just curious where you wound up ordering that Abit board from?
