I want to order a system based on Athlon CPU and Pioneer DVD and Plextor CDWRW. Any suggestions on a good reliable system builder that is also reasonably priced?
I found that "Envision Computer Solutions" (www.envisioncs.net) had very good seller ratings but I am sure there are more.

I found Nutrend to be good. Also heard good things about polywell, but not sure if they are as cheap.
Best way to do it is yourself though!

Polywell is not too cheap if fact there one of the more expensive ones. When you start asking for specific parts especially name brand it usually jacks up the price alot cuz most likely they will be using cheap(er) parts. You might want to seriously consider building it. if thats totally out of the question you could just get the system without the drives and put them in yourself drives arnt that hard to install. And you save money nomatter what any manufacturer will add at least a few % to the price you could buy the drive.
good luck

Sys:
I also found Nutrend to be good. They gave me good bang for the buck;got better bang for my buck at Quantex. . .but they folded!
You may have trouble getting specific brands
of parts. Not sure what they're using for DVD drives now,but I remember that I opted out of the Ricoh CD-RW that was offered in the package.
Seems like an item that you want w/one vendor
is not available from another vendor, etc.
I just put a system together for a friend:
1GHz Pentium III
Asus CUSL-2 mobo
Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Soundblaster Live!Value soundcard
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon Video card
Call-Waiting Hardware modem
12X Hitachi DVD-ROM
16x10x40x Plextor CD-RW
512MB Crucial PC133 SDRAM
IBM(Altec Lansing)speakers w/20watt subwfr
Antec case w/300 watt Power Supply
Viewsonic 19" monitor
Logitech Cordless RF Keyboard & mouse
Windows 98SE OS
Total w/all shipping and tax= $1750
Don't know if you could customize like this
ordering from a vendor.Usually they auto-
matically include stuff you don't want or need, so, that's essentially your choices.
Sorry, don't know if I've helped or not!

I was planning on getting internet access after getting the new system. Currently, my only access is from work. From what I have read, it appears that you need internet access to get the drivers for the hardware.
Is that a big problem?

I see that you are from Mauldin, SC.
Have you ever heard of S-S Solutions in Spartanburg, SC. They sell a few systems on E-Bay, and I was considering using them.
