No fans or other things I am aware of to help cool a modem in a laptop.
What makes you think it is getting "too" hot?

I have a KILLER fan that goes in my PCMCIA slot, (sticks out from the side and blows inside the case, has a filter too) runs off that slots power and cools this baby right down...

i have one on my laptop here. i got it at J&R (http://www.jandr.com/), but their site is currently down. i have been around their alternate site, as well as many other sites and am unable to find such a product.
if i do find it, i'll tell you, though.

i finally found the site of the manufacturer of the fan i have (the brand is Just Cooler and the site is justcoolerusa.com (http://www.justcoolerusa.com/)).
there are two problems, though. they apparently discontinued making this fan. and i can't find where to purchase their products, anyway.
i did, however, find another fan thingy that is made for a laptop (click here (http://www.justcoolerusa.com/products/nb/nb-600.html) to read about it).
i have sent them an e-mail about possible online resellers, so i'll get back to you on the outcome of that.
other than that, i haven't yet found anything. but, as i said before, i'll be sure to post back if i find anything.

Most PC card slots have room for a real tall card, just stick a heatsink on there and slide it in, if it goes, pop it back out, put thermal paste between them, put a drop of super glue on the sidesof the heatsink bottoms and you have a real nice cooler! As for the pc card fans, you cannot use the pc card modem while one of those is in there.
