The Geeks are good! They sometimes get a little behind on their shipping, but you'll get your order and if you have any problems, their customer service is outstanding!

Same thing happened to me too when I ordered from them, it took quite a while to ship. Oh well the price was great.

With ComputerGeeks they have all types of stuff.

Usually older, slow moving, overstocks or random lots obtained from auction houses.

The company themselves seem to be Trustworthy as I've bought used drives before and had to RMA them.
I got a RMA real fast and credit also.

Please note they do not like to take stuff back, as they have a hefty "restocking" fee.

Read closely the description and BE SURE it is what you need.

As far as the slow shipping, I always choose the lowest cost shipping.
This results in a delay at times which I understand.

On the HP digital camera I ordered lately, the price increase from ground to 2nd day air was only $4.00, so I plunged for the Air option.

I've ordered at least 20+ times from them with NO complaints.

And If I had a issue with them, THEY would be the first to know.
Then if THEY did NOT satisify me,, SYSOPT would be the 2nd to know.

I give a merchant a chance to correct a problem before I broadcast it to the world.

I have seen many persons slam a company for just ONE small error or bad merchandise.

Also, how many .com's for computer hardware offer a "driver" page for both past and present stuff that they've sold ??

None that I've seen

One time they sent me something wrong.

The letters of apology were quite inspiring.
UPS pre-paid labels etc, really professional.

drivers and some txt documents->>

I've always had positive dealing with CompGeeks, and they have proven reliable (albiet slow) with the shipping timeframe.

As always, be sure to consult resellerratings for the latest info regarding a particular online vendor. Here ya' go:

I have been shopping the geek for two years now and only had one bad experience with them. I still shop there. It takes three strike to be out.

Today I got my 3rd apology letter from compgeeks.

It seems to be travelling up the corporate ladder there http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

They made a mistake on shipping an item and I C&P'd their ad in my e-mail to them.

Since then they've been more than professional, perhaps the $6.9M I spent there last year has me as a "Prefered" customer.(j/k of course)

They are the only company to actually apologize for a mistake.

I RMA'd a CD drive - cross-shipped...they shipped a day late and threw in a Geek tool kit! I dropped $800+ last night and told them for the $ I've been spending, they need to throw a T-shirt in on the deal http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Haven't heard back on that yet.

I've ordered form them several times but about a month ago I ordered several Socket7/370 H/S fan combo's that looked too good to be true and I should've called but even now that I think about it, I don't think I would've been able to gleen the fact that the H/S's were cheap sheetmetal instead of cast aluminum. I should've known better and I'm sure they would've taken them back but it would've cost me almost as much to return the items as I would've been refunded. Actually, I feel they did take advantage of this situation and I'm sure I'm not the only one to fall for this. Will I order from them again? Probably, but with my eyes a little wider open.

Richard_Cranium72
05-25-2001, 11:25 AM
Toad, I too ordered some of those HS/Fans .

I also had hoped for the cast ones as I was gonna rob the Fan to use on the older systems that come in needing one.

But,, If you cna find it, the specs for the actual performance of the folded fin sheet metal HS's if really very good, better than the el-cheapo cast units..

Just FYI

Computer Geeks is a sister company of a wholesaler that sells ..... hundreds of millions of bucks worth of hardware etc. every year. They also run an auction site. My only complaint with them has been some power supplies - they sucked and blew out CPUs and caused me all sorts of headaches. They replaced the power supplies but ... you know.... you never get back all the time and money and the cost of the other hardware that got zonked .... these power supplies stank and I think they kept selling them for awhile... so that is my only complaint. That and I ordered 2 scsi cards from them... both were bad... they replaced them... but rma rma rma costs $$ after awhile.

Can't say I'm not a Geek Fan, but watch out on things you think you can get more than one specific time...

I bought 3 removable hdd bays in March. They were so cool I thought maybe I'd buy 3 more in May. That was a mistake. The last 3 were a different design and not compatible with the first three (bummer, I was counting on compatibility). Worse yet, there doesn't seem to be any way to track down the mfr! 'Course, that's not big news... a lot of manufacturers these days are so ashamed of their product that they don't even put their name on things they build.

I'd also bought a few "ET Boards" from them in March. These are bay panels with a couple of USB hubs, one firewire, line in/out and an RS-232 port in 'em. I talked some buds into buying a few, so oredered more. Order took, but there was "only one left in stock", no more to come, I guess (they didn't say then and never have since).

I think these guys buy stuff from vendors who only made a few of any one thing and then peddle it to whoever they can that day. There doesn't seem to be much consistency... So if you only want what they can ship on any one day, you are likely to do just fine.

So sorry, Senior Vette, for having assaulted your sensibilities.

Well Junior, you're not only stepping on toes, your stomping them..

I suppose you think the geeks are the ONLY site on the web that sells junk ??

If you'll look a bit further, many if not all computer stores have Indonesion Junk as you so delicately call it.

Hmmm, lets rethink this,, compgeeks sells only junk,

Just what kind of junk mfg's does compgeeks represent,, OK, here's a few->>

Kodak
Hewlett Packard
Intel
Amd
Mitsumi
Acer
Plextor
Pioneer
NEC
Matsu****a
Toshiba
Hitachi
Sanyo
Recoton
Sega
Turtle Beach
Sony
Western Digital
Soyo
Creative Labs
Quantum
Belkin
Motorola
3Com
SkyLink
Lekmark
Canon
AT&T
Mitsubishi
Umax Astra
Compaq
STB Voodoo
Diamond
Aureal
ATi
Cirrus Logic
Hauppauge
Boca Research

Did you notice that they also provide a "Drivers" page for stuff that they sold in the PAST ??
www.compgeeks.com/drivers.asp (http://www.compgeeks.com/drivers.asp)
How many other sites offer this service, NONE I can think of.

I've got another thought, considering your statement about they only had ONE of an item you wanted, did you think that perhaps they SOLD OUT ??

They have a icon next to the item indicating "Almost Gone"

And the HD chassis that did not interchange with the previous model, I clearly remember that they posted a note about it not working with a previous model and gave the p/n.

I read reviews all the time.

Careful consideration of the statements and leading remarks in lots of them make me think THIS.

SOME people, upon having a single incident or faulty product run straight to the Reviews sites and whine and cry because they didn't get what they wanted.
Perhaps they did git a defective item, is that a reason to SLAM the vendor, heck they didn't make the thing, only sold it.

I just hope the member who brought the geeks to us don't see this.

I at this minute am using a Intel modem from geeks.
My Elsa External got hit by Lightning today and this one works very well thank you.

I suggest more careful consideration of your comments regarding decent and reputable vendors, especially here..

most sincerely

DrVette

I think these guys buy **** from indonesians who only made a few of any one thing and then peddle it to whoever they can that day

What did the indonesians do to you? I'm in the diversity club at school and this is the kind of thing we're trying to stop. You could have said "I think these guys buy **** from vendors who only made a few of any one thing and then peddle it to whoever they can that day.

Folks, let's all be more aware that we're a global site. It's insensitive and not fair, nor right, to blame / name a entire culture of people for the actions or alleged actions of a few.

This site caters to people from all over the world; we are a global community.

Let's keep this where the issue lies - with this specific vendor.

'K, I give. I was trying to respond candididly to the original post. I've had four dealings with the geeks, two good, two not so good.

On the other hand, I think you folks are correct about one thing: I slurred a whole society in my original post (note that it has been edited). Guess I'll take the lumps for that, though it honestly was not intended like it originally read. I sincerely apologize to all for that.

BTW, Senior Vette, seems to me you might be slurring "juniors" in one of your posts. I'm past 50, been on the net since '97, and have never had a post like yours directed at me before. The fact that I haven't posted much to this particular board (which, of course, makes me a "Junior" here) does not give you automatic license to run ramshod out of control on me. My guess is I'm not the only one who would feel this way in a similar situation. Just FYI, no more flaming is necessary.

Kindest Regards to all.

Well then,, Dan

Apology accepted, just FYI, I did HOLD back with my post, the comments just rubbed me the wrong way..

Senior Vette,

Did you mean:

Usually older, slow moving, overstocks or random lots obtained from auction houses(this from your first post on this thread)

Or

Hmmm, lets rethink this,, compgeeks sells only junk, just what kind of junk mfg's does compgeeks represent,, OK, here's a few-

Kodak
Hewlett Packard
Intel
Amd
Mitsumi
Acer
Plextor
Pioneer
NEC
Matsu****a
Toshiba
Hitachi
Sanyo
Recoton
Sega
Turtle Beach
Sony
Western Digital
Soyo
Creative Labs
Quantum
Belkin
Motorola
3Com
SkyLink
Lekmark (or was that Lexmark?)
Canon
AT&T
Mitsubishi
Umax Astra
Compaq
STB Voodoo
Diamond
Aureal
ATi
Cirrus Logic
Hauppauge
Boca Research
(this from one of your subsequent posts).

Just curious...

BTW, which of the mfr's you listed supplied the geeks with either of the products I posted about? I'd sure like to know, I need more.

All this in jest.

Whether you know it or not, I've taken your advice here many times. I'd bet a lot of folks have...

What we have here is a failure to communicate (or is it just being human)?

Edit: had to... grammar... it's hell getting old, uno?

Hi Dr Vette,

It's prolly my email... it's under "reconstruction" You should see the marketing stuff they send about how much better it's gonna be some day when they are done. Meanwhile, it's flat not working. If ya got any buds on "mail.com", bet they'll tell you it's not working too well right now for them either (and for the last coupla weeks). That's my web mail (gotta have it or you get spammed to exaspreration on your real mailbox, uno?)

Meanwhile, I'm at

danparkcityut@yahoo.com

Glad to see I might get outa my predicament with you (and others) here without too much of a beating. Appears a poor choice of words on-the-go can be a pretty serious infraction...

...referring to CompGeeks....I've only bought 2 products from them: Sound Blaster Live! Value and a set of LexPro Speakers w/ Subwoofer. They arrived promptly and the price was quite reasonable. Just my 2 cents, I've perused their site for quite some time, and they have quite a comprehensive setup. I plan on doing business with them in the future.

As far as the minor incident above...I;ve been a member for over a year, and I've enjoyed it very much. The people here are responsive and informative. Once in a while, we'll say something, but the great thing, is that 99.9% of us are mature enough to deal with it and let it go. I remember when there was only 6,000 or so members, and now there are already 17,000+ WOW!!
With that many members, it's just a little more difficult for all of us to get along. But I think we've managed pretty well.

Thanks

I tend to agree with 'vette.
there are two .com's that I would recommend my mother doing business with,
geeks, and outpost.com whom is being bought by someone else http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
like vette says, they almost always post a link to either drivers, or a lot of time, a direct link to the vendors website. This is very usful for compat. issues for me anyway. I have even gotten vendor support for products purchased thru geeks from the vendors, after they learned that I had aquired them there. That tells me that there is a pretty strong relationship between the vendor and geeks doesn't it?
I have been a geek customer for only a year, and have had zero problems. Another thing I like, is the tracking number(s) they provide. Most of the time when I think shipping is slow, its not the geeks, but the shipper, fed-ex, ups, whoever, it takes just a few clicks to find the shipment. So, my grade of the geeks, compared to other online vendors would have to be a 9.9 out of ten.
..my 2 cents.
