I just rebuilt my system by adding a new Mobo and Sound card;

Mobo: Soyo 7VCA, it is using the VIA Apollo Pro 133A Chipset.

The problem that I am having is that I cannot get any of my old Dos software to recognize the sound card. If you run the Auto Detect sound card options on these programs the system freezes and I need to reboot to get out.

I have disabled the onboard sound chip through the Bios so that should not be the problem. There are no visible conflicts displayed under system settings.

I have made sure that the Autoexec.bat had the needed set blaster lines in it and that it matches what system resources that are being used by the sound card.

The only unusual thing that I see about this card is that it uses a legacy sound card emulator program that is loaded when the Autoexec.bat is run.

When I try and run the Sound Blaster sound card test through dos I get the message/question, "Is sound emulation enabled." I then manually try the start the sound emulation program again and receive the message, "Sound Blaster emulator is already enabled."

I have checked the Creative Labs Web for Tech support and have not found any similar listed problem. I have also downloaded and loaded all the updated drivers. No help.

If anyone can give me an idea on what to try next, I'd really appreciate it.

Software emulation has always worked for me but I do not play many DOS games.

You may want to look for something on your motherboard called "SB-LINK" connector (a feature of newer boards), you may need to physically connect a cable from the sound card to the motherboard.

Check your sound card and motherboard documentation for this option.
