Go in the bathroom and look in the mirror! You are the best one for the job! If you click on the "Guides" link on the main page, these is a lot of info on how to do it yourself. Use http://www.pricewatch.com to locate the components you want, post here on Sysopt and/or read the threads to help you decide. And use http://www.resellerratings.com to check out the reputation of the sellers! You can do it...and Sysopt will help!

Thanks Guys
First off, I am a little wary of building it myself because where am I going to get a warranty? Also, Jason, thanks for the reference to Intellect, Rockville is about as close as I would expect.

Does anybody know of any good places to get a custom computer built in the Washington, DC area? The only one I could find on resellerratings.com was Minotaur and they are too expensive.
Thanks in advance

Thanks guys, I have newfound confidence. I found out that I could save slightly over $300 by building it myself. BTW, newegg.com has a 6.5 rating and great prices on everything. $319 (free to ship, and best price for a shop with a good rating) Leadtech GF2 Ultra. I still have to check out Intellect. Now, on to my question, is it a bad idea to buy OEM parts? If I built it myself the processor (maybe), hard drive, modem, CD-Rom, and WinMe would be OEM. Thanks for all the help so far.

I do custom comps. Built my roommate one this semister, and his brother one last semister. Im currently attending the University of Maryland at College Park - 9 Miles outta DC. Hang me an email if your interested - Emails in my profile.
I'm not a business, just someone who knows his way around comps, and has a hobby of building them. Anything else - Just email me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

not bad to buy OEM but after the warranty the company gives you your pretty much out of luck. let me give you an example. i bought a t-bird 900 mhz from a web site. they gave me 30 day warranty. well the chip crapped out and they said they will take it back but it will take 4-6 weeks to get my a replacement. since they have to send the chip back to amd and get it checked out. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif so watch it with OEMS. later i read up on them thru resellers and they have had a history of sending out defective products. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
just becareful!!!
