I have two Quantum's 10 gigs hard drive, AS fireball 100, they are excellent, not the fastest, but make the least sounds of any ide drive, they cost a little less than ibm. For the money , I would use these in a raid set up but single use get the IBM. Staple's sell's them also, they are backed up for three years and Quantum is a top company to deal with. The smaller hard drive's always run cooler ,so in a raid set up, using three or four smaller drive's is not a bad idea, just buy same size only for raid.

It chaps my hide that Quantum is now owned by Maxtor. So what does this mean? Will Maxtor drives become better? Will quantum drives become crappier? Will they all have the Maxtor name? Or will the be called something like Quator or Maxtum?

I don't have any inside information on this, but in allmost all busnes situations where companny buys another, nothing changes. When Bridgestone bought Firestone, the quality of each company stayed the same. The names sayed the same also. Even the people working for them is same. All that changed was who got the money in the end.
A man in my city who owned a Dennys Resturant, bought A Burger King. Dennys didn't start selling Wappers. Nothing changed at all.

Nothing is going to change that fast with maxtor buying Quantum but in the future I would not bet on it. Maxtor should get better , I do not really liked the maxtor that I had-i sold my maxtor-very noisy drive sounds like a peice of junk.
