does anyone know of any good links that provide info on having cable access and ftps server setup? looking to set up a server on cable modem and isp doesn't allow it so I need to mask so isp only sees one connection.
also need to know what ip address I'm supposed to use. thanks in advance.

First does your ISP allow server services to be run? If they do it's very easy to redirect the request to your FTP server. Also do you have a static IP address?

You can setup a cable modem FTP srever very easily. I have one setup for my friends and myself using the G6 FTP server. You can check out a demo version at www.gene6.com (http://www.gene6.com) . It is a very easy to use FTP server. now, I do use @home service, and they specifically say in the contract that you cannot host a server. however, thru watching my firewall software, I have learned that they do not scan for opens ports very well. It would take them forever to scan every member's 65,000 or so ports. So, if you run it at a high port, (I suggest over 10,000), then you should be fine.
I don't understand what you are saying about masking the IP so the service only sees one connection....doesn't make much sense. For you IP, that woudl depend on the service. My @home provider gives us a static IP address. If you are not sure whether yours is static or not, you can get a program from www.grc.com (http://www.grc.com) to see your IP and use a service like www.dhs.org (http://www.dhs.org) to get an actal name for your ftp (like HEREisMYftp.dhs.org).
Hope that helps,

Paul

I'm not sure if this will suit your needs but you should have a look at it. You can forward ports through the router so that they are open.

I have that router on my network at home. Its very nice. I have three computers attached to it, then I have a 16 port hub attached the the Routers uplink port and that has 5 or 6 other computers running to it. Works very well, haven't had any problems with yet. Don't think it will really help you with your FTP site, but if you have a cable or DSL connection and want to share it amongst a few other computers, its a good buy!
