OuT, just r-click your IE desktop icon, choose Properties, hit the Security tab, & disable "Scripting of Java Applets" in each zone. Also, the Advanced tab has a "Enable JIT compiler" that you might want to uncheck, but I think the first action will do what you want.

Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab. Uncheck everything under Java VM. Reboot.

Interesting, how in IE5, if you go to the help index, there isn't even an entry for Java. Microsuck likes to refer to it as the Virtual Machine (though you won't find that in the help either).
