I would be willing to help you out if you'd like. just get back to me on what you want to do. CujoRbd socalgal 07-08-2000, 07:23 PM Hi BTT I'm no HTML wiz myself (yet!) but here are some links I hope helps you out. http://snowwhite.it.brighton.ac.uk/~mas/mas/courses/html/html1.html And here's a cool (I think) site with buttons, backgrounds, etc. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ Good luck on building your site http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by socalgal (edited 07-08-2000).] Glynn R Harris 07-08-2000, 07:32 PM CujoRbd has made a really generous offer to you BTT-- how can you beat the help of a pro? I am just learning HTML and Java. I am looking at various books and playing. I see some interesting things I'd like to try, but would be pleased if anyone here at SysOpt knows of the best tools to do this sort of experimenting OFFLINE. I do not yet have a webpage of my own and I have been clumsily making pages in Lotus WordPro and viewing the results in IE. This method leaves a lot to be desired. I am sure there are much better ways to play with HTML. I have looked at some scripts from http://www.dynamicdrive.com and they have some sophisticated things I do not yet understand (but a lot of it looks cool!). How many here are doing their own website design? How are you doing it? geekgrl 07-08-2000, 07:46 PM You know, web design is my favorite thing http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I don't have my own page, because I think I'm too lame to talk about, and I don't have a "theme idea" for myself. I'm going to make my boyfriend a fun site for his Miata. I also do some work for a web company on the side - nothing creative, just the grunt work. But it's work and experience! I started learning HTML from a "HTML For Dummies" book. That's how I start learning everything. Those books are way underrated. I start by reading those and understanding the basics. Then, after that, I start practicing and working, and then I move to bigger and more in-depth books. Read read read. Do do do. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif blind to truth 07-08-2000, 11:36 PM I attempted to do it myself-mistake.Look at it! Is it because you cant use .JPEG?? smokin1 07-09-2000, 12:20 AM Here is a great place to start http://junior.apk.net/~jbarta/tutor/makapage/index.html and build from there http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by smokin1 (edited 07-09-2000).] zskillz 07-09-2000, 12:45 AM Cujo... I'd like to know what exactly javascript is.... is there a website that gives descriptions of all of the major webpage components... applet html javascript... etc thanks -Z SoopaStar 07-09-2000, 01:17 AM Look no further than the neighborhood you are in. Earthweb has some very good webpages that I rely on at times. www.htmlgoodies.com (http://www.htmlgoodies.com) . VERY nice site from the bottom up. Also, I visited yer site and it seems that none of the graphics are apearing. You can use jpegs. one thing you can double check: if your webhost is a unix or linux based server, then your stuff is case sensative. Also, I think you have an error in this statement in your html: www.anzwers.org =home that =home seems odd and out of place. Paul geekgrl 07-09-2000, 07:37 AM blind to truth, you must remember you aren't going to be html wiz kid after a few tries - takes a while. i've been learning for about 3-4 years and still learning and still messing up. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif CujoRbd 07-09-2000, 01:58 PM anyone interested in beginning HTML should check out both NCSA (http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimerPrintable.html) (they also have several viewing options (http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/index.html), including PDF (http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimerPDF.pdf) and in a ZIP file (http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimerAll.zip)) and HTML Goodies (http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/). They are both very good and very detailed. If anyone is interested in JavaScript, Java (including applets, beans, and more), CGI, DHTML, or Style Sheets (CSS), definitely check out HTML Goodies (http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/), as they have a good collection of links to them. I have many more links to these topics, as well as to several others. If anyone has an interest in a particualar area, please ask and I (as well as others, I'm sure) will provide you with some related links. My offer is still open, BTT, so just tell me what you think. I am also pretty good at explaining things, so if I were to do the site for you (part or all of it), you would be able to learn about everything that I had done. Just let me know. CujoRbd howste 07-10-2000, 08:15 AM The place I've gone whenever I have questions about HTML or JavaScript is http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/. They have step-by-step tutorials for a lot of things. Another thing I do is look at things when I'm surfing. When I see something I like, I right-click on the page and select "View Source." This displays the HTML code. Usually I can figure out how they did something then. Good luck http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Steve SysOpt.com
