I have a Western Digital 10.2 gig, 10pin drive. I cant install win2k on it. even if i use another drive that has win2k as master and the WD as the slave. it still does not work. it gives me errors in win2k and doesnt even show up. I really want to install win2k on this, because i hate win98.
I have a 5VMD mvp3 mobo.
amd k6-2 500
192MB ram.
Ive looked for an ATA 66 setting in the BIOS but i havent found anything.

Assuming your drive is ok I would think you need to flash your bios or put an overlay on that drive to get past the 8 gig barrier.
Does your drive show up as right size in bios and bootup?
What size is your other drive?

the drive is ok. i know that for sure. yes, it shows up as a 10.2 gig in bios. This is the only drive in here now. but the ither day i put in a 3 gig HD that had win2k on it. and put this 10gig as the slave. and it took forever to boot up. and none of the icons were showing. and it gave me an error about an unsafe device. it showed something like WD (western digital) and a bunch of numbers.

You said you were using ATA66--there is your problem most likely. I tried for DAYS (LITERALLY) to try to get my current machine (epox dual PII 400 with a promise Ultra UDMA66 addon card) to boot with it. If you want some good advice for installing the OS on that mobo, try checking their support articles at www.promise.com (http://www.promise.com) . I never got mine to work, so I sold the card to another member on here. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Don't let that discourage you. There are many people using them.

You must insert the driver diskette for the Ultra DMA66 add-on card when you see the installation message to add thrid party SCSI adapter by pressing F6 and then pressing S for adding new mass storage device. I had the same problem with my Abit BE6-2 M/B. Altough you may not be using an add-on DMA66 card, it may be required to recognize the hard drive that you are installing to.
