Is it possible to have to many fans? I have a Duron 600 on a Gigabyte board; it is running on a 300 watt power supply. I have the following fans:
1 cpu fan
1 video card fan
1 power supply fan
2 80 mm case fans
2 HD fans
2 slot fans
Is this too many? Do I have enough power?

Shouldnt be much of a problem for a 300watt PS unless you have large amounts of HD's CD's ect

i have 5 80mm, 3 60 mm, a CPU fan, and a video card fan. And if i turn down any one fan, i do see a temperature increase. They just have to be placed well, thats all.

yea, just make sure not to connect all those fans on one cable.. It's good to have a dedicated cable just for the fans, and the other for the Harddrive, CD/ROM.. Other than that, if you just have a regular computer, (mainly 1 harddrive, with a floppy, CD ROM, and maybe a CD/RW) then you will have no problems. BUT, if you have multiple hardrives, and floppy drives, etc... then you might need more power. 300w is alot, but if you plan on adding more fans, then consider mORE power. It's also good to have a big case, to fit those. I have a full tower with the following fans. These are what I have.

1 PS Fan
2 Case Fans
1 CPU Fan
1 Vid Fan
1 Slot Fan

i'm gonna get a HD cooler, with more slot fans, and another case fan. Put them on GOOD, because if you put them on in a crappy setup, you can just **** up airflow, and that won't help at all. So yea, that's all, hope that helps.

No such thing as "TOO" many fans... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

If you got'em, add'em. My list of fans:

http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 1 84mm case fan standard in the power supply (blowing out)
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 1 small Socket7 fan on my TNT2 chip (pulling air through it, blowing away from the chip).
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 1 84mm case fan blowing out the rear placed just under my video card. Otherwise the warm air just accumulates in the large void under the AGP card.
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 2 84mm case fans bolted to the heatsink on my Athlon. I really just need a better heatsink (it's a cheapo) but until then this massive air pummeling is doing the trick.
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 1 92mm case fan in the freshly cut hole in the side of my case. Essentially feeding outside air directly to the piggy-backed CPU fans.
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 1 75mm x 35mm(chubby) fan located near the CPU, up under the PS. This one is an exhaust fan.
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/icons/icon2.gif 1 84mm x 40mm(thick!) high powered AC fan that plugs into my power strip thingy. It has it's own on/off button and I only turn it on when needed (like really hot days).

Hey if you put enough fans your computer may start to hover! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

yea, you can put some of those 120mm fans the blow 115CFM under your computer. Put as much as you can fit under your computer tower, and see if it hovers! If it hovers then, there! You have a hovercraft computer!

When it sucks all the dust out of you're room then you have the first vacuum cleaner powered by an AMD processor.

To me it would seem more appropiate to have an Intel powered vacuum cleaner. For obvious reasons. http://members.home.net/autpatient/0.gif

Why not simply add a PSU if You think it's too much fan's? I did it, and my hang-up's ended right there on the spot. 2 hdd's, 2 CD's, 6 fans in various sizes and K6-2 450@550. Ok, some engineering, but I could do it myself, but then again, I'm not a engineer... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I disagree--it IS possible to have too many fans if your fans aren't creating optimal air flow. You want to intake the maximum amount of cold air possible (preferably at the bottom) and expel the greatest amount of hot air possible (preferably at the top).

Thanks for all of your help! I probably won't be adding any more fans, as they just won't fit effectively in my mid case. I also only have 3 main devices (CD-ROM, floppy, HD), so I guess power won't be a problem. Thanks again.
