Howdy all,
I acquired and extra AMD K6 233 MHz CPU, if I can find a cheap socket 7 dual MB, then I would like to play with it. Thanks!

Hmmm, interesting. Where I worked before we had dual Pentium 233s running our servers 3 years ago. I am hoping someone can fidn what we use to use.

Are you refering to Pentium 2 233's or Pentium 233 MMX? If you're refering to the P2's, there are plenty of dual mainboards that are available from different manufacturers.

So, ok, let's update this thread and it goes something like this:
I just aquired another PII/233 CPU and was looking for a good dual Slot1 mobo. Has anybody seen anything for sale recently that they would recommend? TIA.

Socket 7s refer to a Pentuim MMX, the P2's were only made on a Slot 1 design. The AMD K6 233 was only made on Socket 7. So let's correct TOAD, I don't kow if he was making fun of NDC or was just confused by his post, but here goes:
I have two AMD K6 233 MHz CPUs. I need a dual SOCKET 7 MB for it. I would like one cheap, any assistance would be appreciated.

Are you sure it weren't Pentium Pro's where you worked?

i own a dual socket 7 board so they do exist they are not in great abundance but there are usually a 1 or 2 on ebay and there are a ton of dual pentium pro "socket 8" boards out there

Okay here is the deal:
- Yes there are dual docket 7 and socket 8 motherboards.
- These will not help you, the only AMD processor that can run in a dual configuration is the Athalon and dual athalon motherboards are not yet available.
- The AMD K6 line just doesn't support SMP (Symetric Multi Processor I believe), you need to go intel to do this dual right now, Tyan should have a dual Athalon out April or so of 2001.

That's right, I forgt about AMD not supporting it. Oh well shoot that idea down.

obviously confused. I was talking about the Pentium 233Mhz server that you said you saw at work. As you may already know, there are 2 types of Intel Pentium 233Mhz which are P2 233Mhz Slot-1 and Pentium 233MMX which is a socket-7.

There are indeed dual socket7 mobo's (not duel like Joel Kleppinger says. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif J/K). I found 2 Asus, apparently that's all there is.
I used Motherboard HomeWorld's database (http://iceberg.pchomeworld.com/cgi-win/MoBotGen/MoBot.asp)
Asus P/E-P55T2P4D (http://iceberg.pchomeworld.com/cgi-win/L3Static/L3Stat.asp?Part=MB5753) and Asus P/I-P65UP5/ C-P55T2D (http://iceberg.pchomeworld.com/cgi-win/L3Static/L3Stat.asp?Part=MB66003) .
I also checked www.asus.com (http://www.asus.com) for more info, but they even say less than Mobo HW.
It looks like those dual boards only support Intel Pentium (not even MMX).

Well after much trouble downloading the manual, it does appear that this MB may support MMX, but it mentions nothing about it or even supporting non-intel CPUs. It does off the necessary split rail voltage regulators to use a MMX chip, but who nows what would happen if I were to plug in a K6 233 into. I guess I will ask ASUS. Thank you for your assistance.

Go on ebay and look for some. Although just get a Celeron 300 and a basic board and it would outperform a dual 233 Socket 7 setup. The cheapest way to set up a dual system is to get a Abit BP6 dual Celeron Motherboard. It's fast, I'm running dual Celeron 366's at 620 (2.1 voltage) and they run at 30'C(I've got 8 fans in my box, it's going to take off soon).

Unless someone can acutally obtain a board from AMD and Cyrix's failed OpenPIC development program (I would give some serious moeny for one of these!), then all you will find is dual Socket7 boards supporting only Intel APIC compatible processors. The P5MMX will work fine in SMP mode, assuming you locate a board with correct dual voltage support. Dual 233MMX systems are excellent canidates for Unix-type servers and lower-tier workstations.
Catch ya' later,

Some time ago I sent an email to several motherboard manufactureres including Abit, ASUS, EPOX, DFI, etc. asking about dual cpu motherboard that support Durons. All of them replied with NO except ASUS. They said their engineers are working on to develop such a board. They have not come out with one yet, hopefully soon. I know there are a lot of folks including myself interested in dual duron cpu board. With Intel boards and cpu prices so high, I can't afford to buy one.
If anyone of you have any additional info, post it here.

First of all, when I'm confused I'll usually say so or it will be SO obvious you won't have to wonder. Second of all, I don't make fun of people. So with that out of the way and based on the info we have gathered so far, can we assume this thread isnt' going to help RADAR1797 run two K6 CPU's on a dual board of any kind? I had already figured that was pretty much the case when I posted the following:
"So, ok, let's update this thread and it goes something like this:
I just aquired another PII/233 CPU and was looking for a good dual Slot1 mobo. Has anybody seen anything for sale recently that they would recommend? TIA."
This was supposed to be a request for help in my situation and I was attempting to take advantage of the attention the original post was generating since it seemed to be a dead end for RADAR1797. It was obvious you were confused by my post and I apologize. But please consider my question. Thanks.
