I have IBM and Maxtor drives very acceptable in action at 7200 rpm...any extraneous sound is perceptable as I listen to music during all awake hours and noise in the room comes across as distortion from my custom built Class A home soundsystem (I believe in Silencer fans)...ive been told I have sensitive hearing, ill admit that, (had multiple surgeries as a child to tune up my hearing) just took a 48x CD rom back...way too loud... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My IBM 10GB 7200 is 1 1/2 years old and is still as quiet as they come. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

yes... definitely go for an IBM; they are the quietest of all the ones I've ever had.

you can check out this page (http://www.storage.ibm.com/hardsoft/diskdrdl/desk/ds34gxp.htm), which has a list of some good 7200 RPM drives. also, if you want to look around a little more on IBM (http://www.ibm.com/), you can just go to their menu of storage products here (http://www.storage.ibm.com/hardsoft/menu.htm).
