Why is "generic" memory bad??

Does it not run as fast as the "better" kinds (Micron, Kingston, etc.)?

Why do they only have good deals on the 128mb sticks!! If anyone finds one on a 256 stick, tell me! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

hehe...yeah forgot about that one....it's just that I was hoping that they would go even cheaper. After all, a stick of 128 is $50!!! Why is a stick that is twice the capacity, three times more in price?

This is what I hate about that cheap ram! I guess it is fine if you have a mobo it is compatible with.

go to www.bestcomputerusa.com (http://www.bestcomputerusa.com) and check out there prices. you have to call them to order and probably need a credit card but they have very good prices like $135.00 for your 256 ram.

So, the *only* risk I take with getting generic memory, is the compatibility factor?

Also If you have ever "troubleshooter" a system with cheap ram, you will never buy it again. whether it is lifetime replacement or not. It can cause some real weird errors and they can be very intermittent.

They know that the people shelling out for the 256mb sticks will pay a premium for it. Where as the 128mb buyer are usually home buyers and are more price conscious.

Hey jnas, I live down the street from Bestcomputer USA and have bought alot of ram and other stuff from them. Check their ram prices:
32mb SDRAM 168 PIN 10ns $25.00
32mb PC100 SDRAM 168 PIN 8ns $18.00
64mb SDRAM 168 PIN 10ns $39.00
64mb PC100 SDRAM 168 PIN 8ns $30.00
64MB PC 133 168PIN $39.00
128mb SDRAM 168 PIN 10ns $79.00
128mb PC100 SDRAM 168 PIN 8ns $59.00
128MB PC 133 168 PIN $65.00
256mb PC100 SDRAM 168 PIN 8ns $119.00
256MB PC 133 168 PIN $129.00
And all their ram is Micron ram. I recently ran 2 of my 64 MB PC 133 sticks up to 147 mhz in a friends Asus CUSL2-c Solano with a Flipchip 800e/133 chip and they ran great http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Have a merry one! Robert
