As you can see from my post in Gen. Disc., I wasn't sure if this deal was too good to be true. I thought there was a catch or something. But then I saw it on Techbargains.com! It's real!

Just got done installing it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I did three 15gb partitions. According to my tv tuner recording software, I can now record 4 hours of high quality video on each 15gb partition http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. There does not seem to be anything wrong with it. It is quiter than my Quantum. It didn't come with any sort of disk, instructions or screws (had to hunt around for one).
Now I have a total of 55gb of space! Woohoo!
Socalgal and others who bought it, have you installed it yet?

Still waiting for the package/s to arrive! Should be delivered at my work early this week - will let you know http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I'm not sure how or if I'll part it up yet http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

With that bring another topic...the question of partitioning these new large disks...anyone offer up opinions on this. Having 50+ gigs of space is wonderfull but can you imagine defragmenting a single 40 to 50 gig disk partition?

Thanks for the deal.. although I found out about it first from another board.
I thought I'd mention a nice deal on the ata-100 card.

The Promise Ultra100 is a PCI controller/80-wire cable combination to fully support 100MB/sec burst data transfers and other features of Ultra ATA/100 drives. Serge - yes I did, but saw it only this morning :/ so, instead of taking a chance on ground shipping arriving next week, I opted for delivery tomorrow http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I just tracked it at outpost.com, and it has been shipped.
I replied to your linked thread above; hope you find the solution soon!
There apears to be two ver. of this drive.
The general description of both drives are exactly the same, but when I checked detail here is what I came up with.
Mfr# 07N5640 at Onvia has 2meg cashe and
Mfr# 07N3961 at Buy.com has no cashe.
Am I correct and if so how much does it matter?. I think I'de rather get the one with 2meg cashe.

I ordered one of the 45GB drives from onvia when it was listed as "in stock" on their website... and i got an e-mail that they canceled my order!!
excerpt from e-mail below.. that is what I call WEAKSAUCE
------------------------
"We have received word from our suppliers that the 45GB Deskstar 7200rpm
EIDE Ultra ATA/100 LP 75GXP on your order is no longer available for
shipment. Because the manufacturer is not able to provide us with a
guaranteed date for the item to come back into stock, this part of your
order has been cancelled. "

I ordered 2 on the 20th at 3PM
22 hours later, its at my door...
It was shipped from NJ (something I NEVER find!), which is where I live, and I didn't even have to pay tax. I also used the $40 off $200 coupon.
Thier about ready to go into striping as soon as I can get some questions answered...
