I got this (junk) e-mail today about a program called "WinFix." It claims to be able to improve reliability in Windows (3.x and 9x) to a similar level as that of WinNT or Win2K.
I'm just basically wondering if this might be any good (as I'm sure you may be).
So, has anybody ever heard of this? Does anybody know if it does what it claims?
You can read about it here (http://www.friendlypost.com/comph/). It even claims to have had a favorable review with ZDNet, but I'm not so sure of that.
Well, thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out on this! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

It sounds like a lot more overhead for your PC. With inteligent use of the existing Windows features you shouldn't need this.

This is the same thing as a car-saleman dialog, especially when the program can't be downloaded as a trial. Many or most of Windows 9X problems are caused by 3rd-party software, and most "Crash-proof" programs actually cause more problems, not less. You can make W9X almost as stable as NT/2000, but it takes experience and restraint -- like trimming extra programs down to a minimum.

I figured that it was ****, but was just hoping that it was something good.
and you're both right here; you can just use built-in features to do that and have lots of experience.
Both of my computers (both running Win98(FE)) have just been freezing up and crashing alot lately. I was just hoping that this might fix this or something.

CujoRbd, I'll probably get flamed for this, but I bought W98 SE, installed it, & then trashed it after a week & reinstalled W95 OSR2. It simply was less stable than 95, even using Win98Lite! I tried several configurations & installs, & all benchmarks were slightly less than W95 too. Maybe W98 might be better on the newest equipment -- others could say. BTW, many of the good W98 enhancements work on W95. Just my $.02.

BFlurie, friend of mine(he's the webmaster of www.alphavideo.com (http://www.alphavideo.com) )said that the kernel of win95 is tons more stable than the one in 98.
