I am trying to share some songs on napster and my cousin is trying to download them, we can see each other on the hot list and I can download songs very fast from her (we both have cable modems) yet when she tries to dowload from me it just says getting info until it times out. I have all my files shared, im allowing 3 downloads at a time, we are on the same tcp port (6699) and we cant get it to transfer. In fact, no one can take files from me even though I can take form them...any help?

edit-- nevermind, found it =) apparently i am behind a firewal and had to change the port to zero. works fine now.

i wonder why when my friend is on, and i'm on, he can't see me, and i can't see him, we are not in a firewall either since we are both using port 6699. If i'm wrong, NO, we have no firewall prog that are in use.

chip--where do you change that port info? I am using a Linksys DSL router (basically a hardware firewall) and I am bhind the DMZ IP ( no firewall protection basically). My btrother is BIG on napster and wants to be able to use it...but he is behind the firewall and has probs.
Lemme know!

Soopastar. Go to napster, then go to FILE, then Preferences. Then go in the sharing tab. It should show your port right there.

Use ICQ to transfer to the people you know.
If you both have speedy connections it can go very fast. I was getting 80K/sec with someone across the continent.

WTP the reason you and your friend cant see each other is because napster does not currently link all its servers together. you two are on different servers probably. go to www.napigator.com (http://www.napigator.com) and download that program, it will help alot.
