looking for good DVD drive

Hi, im looking for a fairly high speed DVD drive with good preformance and features. Can anyone tell me some good brands and places to look, thanks

Pioneer has a new 16 or 18x drive thats supposed to be pretty good...

I found it, only 140 nice! But I noticed at the bottom it says bare oem drive. What exactly is OEM and is it safe to buy? I would just buy straight from Pioneer but the bungholes wont let me

OEM means its just the bare drive. Thats it, no drivers, no cables, no sfotware, no manuals. If its froma good dealer, yes I would say its very safe to buy, as long as you have cables, and know how to get the drivers, etc tha you need.

Thats where I read about the Pioneer, (MaxPC) caught my eye because when I was gonna purchase a DVD I wanted Pioneers slotload 10x and couldnt get one...

Found the kit reviewed in Max PC for $155.99
Dunno if it is slot or tray load. Hell maybe even a typo. But I want it so I will be checking up on it. Oh ya, $15 S&H $171 ain't bad at all.

Bought a bare pioneer 10x dvd drive for a 105$ a bout three months ago some minor driver problems but works real good but is not the easyest thing to do.

Driver problems? what drivers?
I got one myself a 104s for 90, and then one for my friend for about 95 (price been going up thru the months), and I just plugged it in, no drivers needed.
OEM basically means you dont have to pay for much of the cardboard that comes with the fancy retail package.
The only thing youll need is a IDE cable (2 bucks) and a audio cable for playing CD's (another 2 bucks).

The drive and decoder work excellently. Sigma Designs makes a remote setup for it to that only runs about 23 dollars with including S/H. Going to pick that up as well.

Frys electronics has the OEM Pioneer 16X for 129$ if yer in California...

I'm going to buy the Pioneer slot drive (ultra cool), but am trying to find the best place to buy it from. I might get the bare OEM drive if I can find a place to buy the 2 cables from. Radio Shack? We don't have any comp stores around here except Shack and Staples (if you could call them comp stores).
