I gave up trying to install 98SE on a Pentium Pro system. Grrr it should work ..shouldn't it?
Constant BSOD errors during install.
I Tried 98SE update from 95b and then clean install(format hd) with the same results.
Re-installed 95b and everything works fine??
ok what am i missing??

i only have one thing to say
and that is WIERD
i think win98 is more demanding than 95/nt/2k
i mean on the CPU and memory i often get memory error in win98SE that i dont get in win2k or any other OS for that matter

I thought the exact same things.
So just to be sure I increased Bios Ram latency setting to 70nS and set clock back down to 200MHz.
Same results.... BSODs from !@#
I also removed all cards execpt video- same, same
I have had this PPro 200 @ 233MHz and the RAM setup for 60nS (72pin) running RC5 for well over 100 days without a problem.
Umm am i trying to run a 32b Operating system on a 16b CPU?? hehe
Anyone got 98SE on a PPro thats functioning?

Yes, Win98SE DOES work w/ a Pentium Pro, at least in my one experience with the Pro.
While upgrading the hard drive to 30 GB for a friend, I installed win98SE (full)on the clean, formatted drive. This wasn't an ordinary computer though, it was a gateway, with a gateway motherboard. (BIOS was CS1T).
In conclusion, Win98SE does work with a Pentium Pro, 200mhz. May be your BIOS, upgrade it. Might (cross fingers) help, and it wouldn't hurt you to do it anyways.

The Pentium Pro works nice on Win98SE, but nicer on true 32-bit OS, such as NT4 and NT5 (Win2000).

The PPro is a 32 bit processor, it is not optimised for 16 bit code (like a pentium 1), Win 98&SE both have a fair bit of 16 bit code in them and I have found that NT and WIN 2000 run better (faster) on my PPro 200@233.

Win2K runs on the Pentium Pro 200? I've been trying to get a stable Win98SE and have never been able to understand where the random BSOD errors come from.
I'll try putting Win2K on it and see if that clears up the errors. Is 48MB of RAM enough?
