I'm telling ya, a curse has fallen upon me. First of all, my IDE controllers on my
BX6 RV.2 motherboard break, so I go out and buy myself a really good ATA66 card, then my Slotket breaks two days later, so I go buy myself a new Slotket. Then I come home, and find out the actual slot on my m/b is broken, so I drive a pickaxe through it to teach it a lesson, and go out and buy myself a new motherboard, a really good one too, an
ABIT BF6. Then I find out the keyboard controllers on it are stuffed, so i'm gonna have to take that back tommorrow too! GEEZ! Will this ever end?
All I wanna do is play Imperium Galatica2, and my computer won't let me http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif <sob>

I haven't used my computer in days, and I can't stand it! I'm so bored. All I can do is browse the net on my dad's laptop, but I WANNA PLAY GAMES GODAMIT!

Hmm, just letting off some steam, cya l8r http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Hang a string of garlic cloves over the box to ward off the gremlins. Seriously, my box works perfectly as long as I don't open it, then the gremlins get inside & it might be a week before they're gone.

haha I know what you mean...

at the weekend I took my box apart for the first time in a couple of months, gave it a good dusting and installed a second HDD and a CDRW. Everything went fine, even got the master/slave stuff on IDE straight first time.

Feeling pleased with myself, slide the case panel (AOpen HX08 - big, heavy, steel) back on, feel a little resistance and assuming it's not on quite flush, give a wiggle and shove and almost shear off the digital audio connector from my SB Live!
The lead was snapped clean out the socket , and the socket and neighboring capacitor were bent, but fortunately remained attached...
Resisting the natural urge to bend them back, I cut my losses, re-connected the lead and (making sure nothing was in the way) closed up the case.

Luckily everything still worked fine, but it kind of took the gloss off a job well done... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I definately know what that feels like...I just started work at a computer shop in Austin as a hardware/software tech. The first day, I was given a work order that stated someone wanted to upgrade their computer, but keep the old case and PS. So I was given all of the new parts, I built it perfectly, but when I finished and Flipped the power button, ZZZZZZPAMMM, the lights go out in the room as well as all of the power. I looked at all the connections to the mobo, the power supply and even the connectors to the Power button. Everything was fine, later a fellow co-worker said I was give a bad motherboard, it was a SIS 530, Now He Tells Me!! I ended up frying the Power Supply, which meant we needed a new case, power suppply, and MB.
Not a good 1st day at the job.

But, the advice I'll give right now is that if ur working on a computer uv never worked with before, take your time, read the manuals, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Now in my situation there was nothing I could do, I didn't know I was given a bad NEW Mobo.

Good Luck to all who decide to open up the case and start fiddlin with what's inside!

I was lucky, now I'm wasted! A couple days ago I installed a new Abit mobo with slotket and P3 600E. Yesterday I put in a 20 GB UDMA ATA/66 HD, extra fan. This morning I formatted, partitioned, did a clean install of OS and all programs (except my golf, voice recog and legal research databases - too tired) and now I can barely focus my eyes on the keyboard! Knock on wood my box is running like a top, but I paid handsomely with my energy. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she keeps purring.

A shower and to bed. G'night!

Bad things tend to happen in threes!

I think you've got the right idea, Snuffy! The axe trick is really satisfying eh? A couple of weeks ago, my tumble dryer broke, so I chopped it up with an axe into small enough pieces to fit in the rubbish bin. Sure as hell made me feel a lot better! (That's what you get for breaking)

The only bad thing that happened to me regarding breaking down, was my p5a-b broke down.

I accidently shorted it, making the southbridge to burn like hell.

Luckely, I got it rma'd for free, so there wasn't really a disaster.
Just 3 weeks no mobo, in my 2nd pc.

You know what they say.....

Equipment maintained by a man and a dog.

The man feeds the dog, and the dog keeps the man away from the equipment !
