Is this a good deal? It's the best price I could find. There is a cheaper model but with an AMD-450. Should I get that one? This will be used for internet and some typing. No DVD or gaming.

Also, is Buy.com a good place to get it? Any and all replies will be noted. Please give your opinions!!! Thanks.

Pricewise it's right in the range I would be willing to pay for it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Although I hate the dang "eraserhead" pointer! that alone would stop me from buying it. When it comes to laptops I personally prefer touchpads as I found them much easier to work with and faster. Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

With you stating that it's to used primarily as a "work" horse I would say if the AMD is substancially less money with the rest of the spec's being just about equal I would not hesistate to go the AMD route.

Thank you VERY much Mntsnow http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. Your reply was greatly appreciated. This is actually for someone else who travels to other countries a lot. He is not "computer savvy" so I was able to pick one out for him. But my expertise on notebooks is limited so I turned to you guys (well...just you). I think I'll get the AMD because that was less money with everything else being the same.

Thanks again!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Do not buy this laptop. It has a dual-scan display. Do not buy a dual scan display as you or your friend will come to regret it. Always choose active matrix only for your laptop choice. You'll notice the difference.

Btw, this might sound crass, but I have an HP Omnibook 900 ultralite laptop for sale if you're interested. It comes with a 24-hour worldwide, next-day service warranty that is transferable and good until July 31, 2002.

E-mail me at thomcat_v@usa.net if interested.

Thanks for the warning, but I found out for myself after having recently played with some laptops at Staples. The one with the Dual Scan, was much worse. I thought it had the mouse pointer trails on at first, but it didn't. I then checked out an active matrix display. It was MUCH clearer and brighter.

Thanks again.

You could take a peek in here while you're looking around:
http://www.notebookaccessories.com

They have a closeout/refurb area where the prices seem to be fairly decent.
