Yes there are free DSL providers out there, and yes there are strings and catches with these offers. First, FreeDSL.com offers free DSL but the modem costs $200, if you refer 10 and they sign up you get the modem for free. The thing is the connectiong speed is 114k up and download and you have banner on your screen. Its about the same with other free DSLs, they have to banners on your screen and you have to pay installation or or small fees. You have to remember, nothing that good can come "free," always strings attached. Oh yeah, the offer FreeDSL.com gives with 10 referal ends May 31st. I say just pay for your boardband connection, more reliable and less hasle.

I think only a certain amount of people will have the opportunity per year. It's not like current free ISPs where you just sign up and go. I forgot the link to that info was.
If you sign up and get past the setup phase, kiss your privacy goodbye.
Does privacy exist on the web? Yes to a certain degree.
Keep in mind since the service is "free" they'll be monitoring your every move. Not to say that that's bad, though I wouldn't be comfortable with that.

Kiss my privacy good bye? on the DSL page I linked to they did not have an agrement between themselves and the users. They said nothing about monitoring your browsing habits. I've always thought that unless the company makes a set of condictions clear in a license agrement they can't do anything. Am I mistaken?
