My pc locks up randomly

Hello:
My pc is starting to lock up randomly. The mobo is a PC-Chips M748MR-H with sound, video and modem on board, 64 Sdram, Celeron 333, Bios Amibios 01/25/1999s.
When I run some tests in DOS there´s no problem, only in Windows. ¿Any clues?

Assuming that the CPU is not overclocked...

Have you tried - first Scandisk, then Defrag??

Is the installation of the OS 'clean' (i.e. nice and recent... Mmmmm... fresh http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ), or has it been on the system for ages and had to put up with numerous program installations and un-installations??? Many programs leave little traces of themselves after uninstallation - stuff in the registry, windows\system folder, etc.

Have you replaced any hardware recently and not removed the drivers?? Check for any conflicts.

These are just the basic things that you may have checked already ¿
