Is there any way to completely disable the windows key, short of bashing it with a hammer (though I like the sound of that idea)? I'm constantly hitting it instead of the CTRL and ALT keys during mindnumbingly violent and gory FPSs. The games don't have any options for disabling it.
{Edit}
Sorry, I'm running Windows 98SE, if that helps.

Try and get one of those old keyboards without the win key for gaming...I know it is hassle but I don't know any other way. Cant you select what characters you want on each key in the character map proggy.

Wow, what a quick reply! Thanks!
Ya, I thought I had an old keyboard laying around here, but I must have pitched it when I moved. The hammer comment above gave me an idea though - I think I'll just pop the key off the keyboard and see how that works. At least it'll be a smaller target!
If that doesn't work, THEN I'll get the hammer....or an old $2 keyboard!

I prefer some older KBs w/o that key.
CTRL+ESC does the same thing when I need it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Ive always wondered about this. Hate that **** windows button when im playing FPS games. BUT, i also hate when I try to crouch (ALT key for me) and check the scores (TAB key for me) at the same time. Then i switch windows into my AIM away message or something =(

my keyboard has 2 winkeys.
couple of things you might try:
( i am using the 1st thing right now )
1. control panel\system\device manager\keyboard
change the driver to an AT or XT. ( I am using AT-84 key right now). Not sure what ALL the effects are ( may not be ok for gamers )
so far, so good for me.
2. windows power kernel toys has a key remap,
here is an article that includes a link to the MS site for download. key remap (http://members.aol.com/AXCEL216/newtip6.htm#WINKEY2)
You can't delete the winkey, only change it's function. If you have 2 winkeys, it only changes one. I'm still hackin the registry to try and turn 'em both off.
but, you could change the winkey to an ALT, so it wont matter if you hit it, it should work the same as the alt key when doing CTL-ALT ( or if you hit Winkey instead of CTL, you could change it to CTL ...you get the drift )
not much...have fun...good luck

There's a program called Winkey Killer.
It disables both Windows keys completely until you reboot or launch the program again.

a simple cheap solution: take a screwdriver and pop the win key of the keyboard. it wont hurt the keyboard and if you really need to it pops right back on.
