Can you guys tell me which is best for reliability:price ratio? What's "cakebox" anyway? It's free shipping from Onsale/Egghead. Here are the choices:

MEMOREX CDR RECORDABLE MEDIA SUPL650MB 74MIN SPINDLE 50-PK $37.99

RICOH CDR MEDIA 8X 650MB GOLD-TYPE 74 50PK SPINDLE $38.99

IMATION CDR 8X 74MIN 650MB-BRANDED SPINDLE 50PK $45.99

MAXELL CDR 8X 650MB 74MIN-BRANDED SPINDLE 50PK $52.99

TDK CDR 74MIN 650MB TDK SPIND-CAKEBOX BRANDED 50PK $53.99

TDK CDR 74MIN 650MB SHINY-SILKSCREEN 8X CERT 50PK $53.99

SONY CDR 650MB/ 74MIN-SILVER MATTE SURFACE, SPINDLE-50PK $50.99

SONY CDR SPINDLE 74MIN BLANK-UNPRINTABLE SHINY 50PK $44.99

HIVAL CDR MEDIA SPINDLE-UNBRANDED 50PK $42.99

HIVAL CDR MEDIA SPINDLE-74MIN 650MB 50PK $42.99

HIVAL CDR MEDIA SPINDLE 8X BLU/-GR 74MIN 650MB 50PK CAKE $43.99

I'm leaning toward either Hival or SONY, but don't know their difference... please help. Thanks!!!

I've always just bought the cheapest ones, and haven't had any problems. I even use those 'see-through' ones that cost about $0.80 CDN from Costco. The only ones I had trouble with are the Samsungs. Over half of them in the box were screwed. The other half barely worked. I've also used Sony and Maxell, both of which work very well, but no better than the cheap ones.

Hmm.. those Ricohs look nice for its price http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm also thinking to go quality with the SONY silver matte surface... anymore opinions?

I've only had Hivals before and they work fine with my Acer 2X writer.

"Cakebox" is that package where they are stacked about 50 per package with no wrappers . It's round and looks like a little 6" cakebox.

It's the other package for people who don't want to pay extra for the "Jewel Box" package.

P.S. like most things, you get what you pay for and you should spend according to what your data is worth it should "vanish".....

Personally I like TDK 8x certified for making "quality" backup copies (ie: Playstation games. The low power output of a playstation laser doesnt do so good with the cheaper CDRs) but for burning shareware and freeware for clients and the neighborhood kids I use the cheapest cdr's I can get ahold of!

I've used CDRs from a variety of manufacturers. I haven't found much difference. They all burn and read just fine for me. I only have a 2x2x6 so maybe higher quality really shines at 4x or 8x recording speeds. I have probably burned about 120 CDs without any problems I can attribute to a brand. I, personally, would buy the RICOH golds. Golds are high quality according to everything I have ever read and normally cost quite a bit more then anything else.

Cakebox? That's a good one. I've always heard them called "spools"...

I have never bought anything from this company but I am about to, these prices look good. $7.75 for a 10 pack of 4x CD-RW's and $44.99 for 100 8x CDR's http://www.computer123.com/home.asp

The only problem that I have had is with compusa cd-r's. When I make an audio cd they won't play in my car. They play in my other cd player just not my car.
I bought some Verbatims from sam's and they work fine. hmmm....

You know, majority of the users say Verbatims are among the best... I have 2 audio CDs that I created about 1.5 years ago, if that long and it looks like it's physically wearing. I treat it the same as I do with my Imation/HiVal CDRs and there aren't any cosmetic problems with those. By physical/cosmetic, I mean that the matte(?) or whatever you call the layer you write on is scratching off a bit at the edge and it seems the data burn on the opposite side is going away with it... the audio is fine though... will I lose the audio sooner than later?

Why only the Verbatims?

I burned a cd from my cousin in Cali by copyin' disc to disc w/ a hi-val cd-r and that piece of S%$! didn't work on my cd-player! The worse thing about it is that the disc is dope and I'll have to wait till June when he comes back to visit! Don't buy hi-val!

Did I mention that my 50 pack of HiVal worked fine for me? I guess it all depends on your player and burner... I used an Acer 2X burner and it works... can't get any simpler than that eh...

I'm just here looking for the better deals...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Easy CD Creator supports burning 700MB/80MIN CDs. I know NERO does though... Email me if you need it.

Just installed Win2k last night and put Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 on there. I read the update of 4.01 (and 4.02) will make it WIN2k compatible - let me know if you need it too. Version 3.5 is a little 'iffy'.

I believe that's dependent upon the software you use as well as the burner.
