Well, guess what? The sucker showed up in today's mail. Had completely forgotten about the thing.

This was before my time. Somebody was giving out free ethernet cards? What kind were they?

I just found a 3Com 3C905B-TX-NM (10/100 PCI) in the "hobbyist box" at my local PC shop for $10. Needless to say, I grabbed it. I don't need one now, but you never know... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
