This is the deal. If you buy Nt4+service pack 4 you get a free upgrade to Win2000! http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/guide/server/pricing/techg.asp
You can find it at http://www.pricewatch.com/

Hi jad1097,
Looks like the upgrade is from NT only. Guess I was dreamin' thinking it might apply to Win98. NOT
Thanks for the post though.

Thanks daveljohnson
I registered. Just waiting for them to get back to me. Only about a two hour drive for me.
Are you 100% positive they give you a copy of win2k for going to the session? Is it pro/server /adv server?
I want to be darn sure before I drive 6 hours.

It's a limited-execution copy. I went to one of the DirectAccess seminars and got one. You gotta get there early to get the good "programmer food".
BUT, you do have a chance to buy a HOT (Hands-On Training) Kit. You can get Office 2K Premium (the real deal, not time-limited) for $99. And Win2K Pro, Server, and Advanced Server for $149. When the real deal ships next month, they'll ship ya a copy of that, too.
The Direct Access conf is a "here's how to sell our stuff to your customers" kind of thing, but one of the presenters gave us a decent look at the active directory. And made us lust mightily over his hotrod laptop he was running Advanced Server (and a few dozen other things) on.
There's a website where you can order these things from their fullfillment contractor, but I'd have to kill you if I told you.
If I could remember what it was....
Thanks for the info UncaDanno. It sounds like the 150 for all three versions is a good deal. hmmmmm

Do you know if that upgrade deal is just for the retail version of NT4, or if it also applys to the OEM version?

I went to the DirectAccess presentations, received a kit with W2K Professional, W2K Server, and a toolkit. Release Candidate 2. It did not say the usual 240 day eval. It is running fine on an AMD K6-2 450 oc to 500. No problems at all. I run SETI all day.

Shoot, they're selling NT Server for $40 on pricewatch, but it's single user license and MS will only upgrade you if you have 5 or more. Whats the diff btwn Server and Workstation anyway?
