Thank you for the links, and the advice folks I just passed the A+
92 Core
84 Dos/Win
Hehe, I should have spent less time in the "Overclocking forum" and more in the Technical support one, then I might have done better on the Dos Win
Observations about the test:
Core was much easier than I expected- much easier than practice materials
Dos/Win - I knew enough to tell what the stupid answers were, and could usually reduce it to one of two options on the hard questions. I wasn't really ready for the Dos/Win segment...I was nervous when I clicked "Exit" But I passed.....Whew!
One of the sites I went to suggested taking the Core first - I did, and it was a great confidence boost to blast right through that before the harder Dos/Win part
Thanks again folks, and if any of you are thinking about taking it, don't be too afraid, just be a little afraid (ie: study)
I got some Audio tapes that I listened to all week on my commute that helped a bunch.
Well, gotta go get a better job now..., wish me luck,
Dan

Dang! I sure do like the looks of that on my resume. Kinda makes me look less like an IT newbie with no certifications.
Now I look like an IT newbie with one itty bitty certification
Oh yeah! 8+}
Back to the paper and Monster, just finished updating my resume.

Hehe, I'll just go ahead and mention it...never know where a job might come from.
Anybody know of any good opportunities for me? I've done a little HTML, also familiar with Flash/Fireworks/Dreamweaver. Currently workin as a data analyst (temp) doing stuff with VBA in Excel.
I'm in Philly, but my wife and I are willing/ would like to relocate.
Please- no California...no offence socalgal and others, but uh.....just don't wanna live there...at all...really, really don't.
Thanks again folks,
Dan

Congrats, danb4. I agree with your asessment of the test(s). I too passed the exams on 6/29.
Core 88%
Dos/Win 81%
The core was so easy I may have breezed through it a little too quickly! If I had reviewed my marked Q's I might have scored better.
Dos/Win score was as you said. I took my time with it but the win3.x stuff that probably hurt me.
Anyway, add me to the list of certified members. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Are you talking about these microsoft tests?
Are they any good? Are they hard?
Where do you apply? How does the whole thing work?

This may sound stupid, but what the hell are these A+ tests? Who offers them, where (I am in Europe) to whom and under what conditions?
It sure sounds interesting, so if you guys can give me some info (or a URL) I would be graateful!

The A+ exams are certification tests for the entry-level service technician. Passing the exams certifies that you have at least 6 months of on the job training or the equivalent thereof. They are taken in two steps and you can take them seperately or at the same time(recommended).
The A+core test is 70 questions and you must get 65% correct. (The 6 customer service Q's dont count against your final score.)
The Dos/Windows test is also 70 Q's and the passing score for it is 66%.
Just from studying for these tests will greatly increase your knowledge of computers and operating systems.I think it's worth the trouble.
Oh yeah: each test costs $128 US.
