quiet and fast!
I have a 11GB Quantum Bigfoot that came with my HP system. I have no major problems with it except the access time is pretty slow. Every time there is major disk access, I can hear it working away right through the case.
No, it's not my windows system. It's just generally slower than most drives.
I'm not in any hurry to switch unless there is a good deal out there somewhere.
Can you recommend a drive that is at least 11GB or more?

Try one of the new 7200RPM UDMA/66 hard drives - The Western Digital 18GB hard drive runs at 7200RPM/2MB buffer/9ms seek time for about $360

You may want to look at "TJT" , www.tjt.com They have some good prices (somewhat of a small selection), and I have had NO problems ordering from them . Check it out....

For me, IBM drives are quiet and fast. I tossed the "other" drives due to their noise level and use IBM.

I took a look at tjt.com - they have good prices but not much of a selection.
I'm surprised to hear that IBM drives are good these days (just a little bit more costly thought).
Thank you all.

The bigfoot drives are slower than dirt. Any drive will be a big improvement on that. Most compaqs and HP computers from last year all had those drives. thats why you could get a nice deal with a fat disk size. I HIGHLY reccomend you check out:
www.pricewatch.com (they dont have a selection for the 20.4 gig you have to search for them)
www.pricescan.com
Or, if you have a Sams Club membership, go there. They ahve Western Digital 20.4 gigs fro around 270 (I just got one). Maxtor drives aren't bad either. The newer IBM drives are very nice. Although I have three 2.5 gig drives that just have never performed okay for me. IBM makes the largest drives, but not the least expensive...
I have all Western Digital (a 5.1 gig, 6.4 gig and a 20.4 now). Western Digital is great on waranty services.

Maxtor 4320, 8.4GB for $109 shipped from Onsale. This is the fastest 5400 rpm ATA drive you can buy, at a very attractive price
