My computer freezed, I restarted and it said
registry corrupted, so I typed "scanreg /restore" it then said bad command or file name. How can I now restore the registry or have I got to completely reinstall win98.
Thanks

Have you tried just typing scanreg at the prompt , forget the /restore. Once you get in and let it scan your registry you can pick from several previous registry saves (usually 5, but that can be changed).

at the geinging of your system boot right afer all the bios inof etc comes up hit F8 and hold it until you have a startup menu appear.
goto safe mode
form there you can enter to the system info program and restore the registry
