Building a system yourself is not really that hard, with all the support and help online you might be better off doing this (unless your situation doesn't allow this, ie lack of time or experience). You could check www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) as well as other online firms for good prices (Note: Watch shipping charges), or look in smaller computer shops in your own city. That's my suggestion

Just for the fun of it, and well...an abundence of time I priced this using pricewatch, and here is what I found (Note: I am not bidding to build this):
Asus P2B-F mobo $111
300a celeron (Slot 1) $54 (PPGA) $47
128mb pc100 RAM $64 (cheap stuff)
7 Bay ATX Case $27
4.3gb harddrive $77 (6.4gbs are only $20 more)
win98 (full version) $90 (or so, if you buy a CPU, HD, or Mobo from some they will give you a slight discount on Win98)
Diamond Viper550 agp $79

Yeah, that actually really good, but when you look at the prices you have to pay for shipping from all those separate places, you'll freak out.

Shipping: memory $12, case $25, etc.

The shipping will make the cost of the computer rise incredibly.

i'm not sure where you got that price for the pc100 128 meg module at. that seems really cheap. i know you put cheap next to it but that sounds more like pc66 which i still think runs more than that. my experience with build computers is to find a local shop for 2 reasons.

1) if something goes wrong then it is easly returned and if you don't want that particular product you can take it back with no hassle....most internet sellers charge you a restocking fee of 15-20%.

2)by the time shipping and handling are added in you might as well have gone down to you local retailer and bought it.

another thing to look out for is warrenty stuff...especially processors. pay alittle more get the 1 yr warrenty.

ABOUT RAM: go to pricewatch, under the catagory memory click on system, click on PC100 128MB and there you go, cheap RAM! (Unfortunately not all the prices are accurate, I investigated some and found the price to be slightly higher then advertised $5-$30)
SHIPPING:Also, about shipping, its usually not too bad if you order from just one or two companies (that is if you can find one or two companies that have really good prices), although the case will cost a bit to ship.
Best Suggestion: I agree with G_MAN, just go for a local store, you get personal service and a custom machine, and the prices arn't too bad.

If anyone is interested, I can put together a system from parts for shipping, but it is not that hard anyyway.
