Thanks for any assistance Hellmund SpookyEddy 07-02-2000, 04:41 AM A RAM drive is when a portion of memory is set aside and used in a similar way to a hard disk. This can then be used to store data as any other disk, but has the advantage of being alot quicker. However any data stored on a RAM drive is lost upon re-booting. You should be able to find plenty of shareware/freeware on the net. Try winfiles.com site. Hellmund 07-02-2000, 05:12 AM Thanks for the info I'll have to look into it and muck around with it a little Hellmund Wilan Wong 07-02-2000, 05:19 AM So does the RAM drive make the files you put in the RAM drive access and copy much faster than the Hard Disk is that right? BBA 07-02-2000, 06:32 AM Ramdrive actually sets up part of memory as a physical drive with a drive letter and all. Any files copied to it can be accessed incredibly fast. Windows boot disks all create a 2M ramdrive by default, so you can look into the autoexec.bat and config.sys on your windows boot disk to see how it gets set up. There is a utility I saw once to create a ramdrive while windows is running, such as maybe 128M, for use loading apps from and such. Works great, but I would need about a gig of ram to set as a ramdrive to run my apps on for it to be useable, then I would need more ram for normal memory usage. So, I don't fool with it anymore.
