I was just wondering, if I can buy a card and watch tv on my computer, would it be possible to write a program to descramble cable channels or has someone done it already. If its possible it would interesting to write it.

Well in theory maybe, but in reality difficult if not impossible.

Alot of the descrambling functions are preformed remotely nowadays, at least where I live.

One would have to access you providers server, find your particular account modify it mask the modifications and exit without dectection."In other words Fat chance"

So if you feel like Tom Cruise "Mission Impossible" and dont mind a vacation. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

P.S. If your crazy enough attempt this dont worry Ill write you daily. and send cigarrettes so you can keep Bubba off your back. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I know a guy who bought a 386 so he could program the sattelite dish descramblers.

He said the new computers are too fast to program the cards, you have to get something slow, thats why he bought the 386.

he now gets 999 channels, and doesnt pay a dime, kinda cool huh?

He did have to buy 2 dishes though to play around with the hardware, but he doesnt have any monthly bills.

Hi. I have bought a Descrambler box (they payed me the money for it) for someone here on the Island and those Descrambler boxes cost an arm and a leg. Its also kinda sad that my Cable TV company here on the Island only has 78 channels http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif.

02-68- Regular Channels

72-78- Pay per view channels

in my neigborhood the cables are underground, and they set what you get with little gadgets in locked boxes around the area. a number of houses to each box.

Cable cubes may be purchase from my wonderful self for the measly sun of £100.

Plug in to the Telewest analogue box, wait 24 hours and all channels for the basic minimum subscription.

Only available for analogue as digital ones can be traced!

Real time channel decoding would be a bit on the heavy side for your average PC.

I think I would want to go for something with some serious dedicated DSP's in it.

Even then I think it may be a long shot.
