Dear sir/madam,

I am interested in trying out linux, but I find the idea of partioning the HD a little worrying. I have just heard of Phat Linxux and Winlinux 2001, both of which can be run on the same partion as windows. I am hoping you can tell me:-

1. If you have used either of these, then which one and what did you think of it?
2. If you have been able to have tried both of these, then which of the two do you think is best?
3. Are there any websites for people new to linux?

Help apprciated.

Thanks

www.linuxnewbie.org (http://www.linuxnewbie.org)

Theres a link on main page for more info about WinLinux. Its brand new though, so sorry, haven't used it.

If you have a few dollars to spend (i.e $20-30) you might want to pick up a linux 4 newbies book. I tried to teach my self linux over net and found it too hard to find a quick, concise, and centralized source of info.

I myself bought RedHat Linux7.0 for Dummies, cuz I'm a dummy! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif (acutally just a newbie)

It can be read cover to cover in a day easy and it WILL get you up and running. Perhaps then you will be at a level where the web will be more helpful......

hello,
i can understand why partitioning ones disk would be troubling. the bad part is the Linux on a windows filesystem gives pretty crappy performance, so if it seems like **** it will probably be better on its on filesystem type.
