I have a gateway solo notebook, and I think the cmos battery is dead. Does it even have a CMOS battery? If so, how do I change it. Opening up the laptop doesnt seem as easy as opening up a midtower! Can anyone help me or give me a link? Thanks.
Yes, they do. I have an old Toshiba that opens by prying the shell surrounding the keyboard gently inward from the bottom shell. There are plastic tabs, 3 or so, that snap under a lip. Many electronic gadgets ~ cordless phones, cassette players etc. ~ are put together this way.
Also, there might be a hatch somewhere with a single screw, sometimes covered by a label. The people who dream these things up are technically impaired artistes who care only about how the package looks and feels.

If you have a 9100, the answer is "Nope".
That's why you have to have the A/C power plugged in when you swap out the power battery: That's the ONLY battery and your BIOS settings would be lost otherwise.
