Who's got a website for designer cases? The ones that you put your CPU, video card, etc. into! I'm building myself another system. And of course it's got to be full size tower if possible. So I would like a little different color if possible.

The only problem with this is if they have purple, my lovely bride would want a new computer too. I guess I can't let her see it, ya right. Any ideas on this problem too (lol)?

Pick out the case you like, tape off your drive bays, completely tape/cover the rear, tape(from the inside)any vent holes on the case cover. Then pick out a good enamel spray paint of your choice and spray.Let it dry for a couple of days, then load the case with your components. This may seem a little labor intensive, but you get exactly the color you want.An alternative is too cover the case with contact paper of your choice of pattern.Great Googally Moo!I should start my own designer case business!

Thanks Stan. I saw that site already.

Well you might have something there. I've got an old 386 that I can practice on first. Actually what I'm looking for is a grayish case with a smoke grey front door that will hide the floppy, cd-rom, backup, etc. I saw one somewhere, but I can't remember where.

Nathan - if you paint the plastic face, take the time to go to automotive supply house & get paint formulated for plastic interior parts. Will adhere better.

Dawgtuff - Have you tried the contact paper? Seems like the internal heat would loosen the adhesive, just a thought.

Nathan, you and I took part in a thread about cases a while back, thought I'd re-post this in case you forgot. You seem to like a big case same as me. I couldn't get it big enough, so did it myself. One problem - built it AT, so door is closed to ATX or whatever comes next, unless I cut & weld again!

Here's a solution to any case problem - if you've the time & patience!

BUILD YOUR OWN!!

A friend and I were both unable to find cases to fit our needs, so built them using whatever case parts we had lying around. We now have rather unique cases - His is an overwide underdesk unit, mounted to underside of desktop on heavy-duty drawer slides. 6 full size external drive bays plus 2 internal. Full MB access with nothing above. Drawer mount slides out w fingertip, no top needed as desk does it. Mine completely different. I'm a full tower person, like Nathan, and couldn't find one big enough. Now have double-wide, 16 bay (11 ext, 5 int), dual PS monster. 16"W X16"D X 24"H. Whole thing built into oak cabinet with oak faceplate. Removeable side panels for access, air space between wood and metal to avoid heat problems. Mounted on casters & topped with upholstered cushion. World's most expensive footstool!

...I may have forgotten to mention, he's a welder and my other hobby is woodworking...

I have a purplish-grey monitor. It comes from the Sony VAIO system.

You want to keep your new bride happy right? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Congrats & Best Wishes Nathan!

Jr.

Interesting cases I have to say. There was one I was tempted with, but ... no. Thanks anyway.

Ed

I do remember that conversation. It was interesting. In my book, the bigger the better. I think at some point you get better air flow through the system. Well anyway, when your friends come over and see it, they think WOW.... what's in it? Can I look inside it? etc. etc.

You got some good ideas there ED. I might be able to make one work too. How about one with that dark Cherry berry wood finish? That way it can look like a million bucks? Spray paint the front of the floppy drive. But what about the CD-rom? Wait a minute. The front of it comes off too. We need to think this one out. Now this just might work.

She is not a new bride. I just use the term rather loosely "my lovely bride". Actually that came from my partner in computers. He's always coming up with something to say like that. He's a lot of fun to be around. We were up one time (well more times than that) at 1:00 A.M. fixing some business systems, (we have a next business day fix it policy) and he was on a roll. We were laughing so hard, I though I was going to die. That's when that phrase came into being after that session.

And at $449.00, it's a steal..hehehe

I actually got a black one coming. A super guy here in this forum found one for me. It has to be ordered (painted lol). But if someone has other sites with other options available, let me know.

Dawg - Paint the case you have, huh?

:::looks around room, sees model of NCC-1701-D with two-tone aztec pattern painted on it:::

Hmmm...that gives me an idea...

Here's another tip. After you get the color you want.Take the case to an airbrush T-shirt shop and have them spray any picture/design you want(Einstein,Mickey Mouse, your Mom,surfboards, hot rods, snowboard, whatever!)
ED_S:A full size ATX shouldn't get hot.If it does, you got a heat problem.....That's some wood case you built!Good show!....You're right about plastic paint.A hobby shop would be a better place.....more colors.

Now were rockin' OK here...let's see...

Great idea...Can they create the warp drive effect on the side of the case?

dawgtuff
Only one word needed here...TAZ!!!! I've got many of them, but one sits right behind me. The Taz behind me is about 3 ft tall and is about 2 ft wide. I don't mind him using my computer (has a little trouble with the keyboard...fingers are too big...so were using a pencil...and I almost have him trained to us the eraser side of it too!) the only problem is he keeps changing my screen saver to Pepe-le-Pew. Not sure what's going on there. I think the county fair will be getting some business this summer. They put Taz on my golf bag. Now how do I do my monitor...

Now if I could replace my regular keyboard with one of those touch sensitive control panels...

Cool man! Nice work!! Three Star Trek models, eh?

1. That first one was from the Star Trek III, right?

2. The next one is NCC-1701D, NG

3. And of course a Klingon Battle crusier.

Have fun with it.

Tip of the iceberg, man...plenty more under construction.

But we're straying from the subject at hand here...

I've already started by building an LED circuit that does the Classic Viewscreen "sensor strip" sequence and velcroed that at the bottom of my monitor. My startup sound is the holodeck "Program complete, enter when ready". Shutdown: Scotty:"Computer, shut this bloody thing off!"

Real accomplishment is, in spite of all this, I still have a full time job, a clear complexion, a car that I don't owe money on and a steady girlfriend!

Hey, Nathan.

Last time I was here, we were greeting a good Sunday morning. Took off after posting; didn't mean to ignore anyone. Got lost in the garden. Surfacing for air just now. Will have to make my way back underground. Will be scarce for awhile. I hope no posts are left unanswered, even if we have no answer; a nudge in the right direction is good.

Tell 8-Ball&ELF that the geurdon indeed transformed into what they affectionately cherish. Let socalgal know that LA just wouldn't be as sunny a place without her.

And to Antonio, CMonster, BBA, and Stan, Susan and Roy, and to so many of the others here at SysOpt...

Thanks. Spread the knowledge!

EDIT

AuraEdge too. (Man, give her some hardware to tinker with and she turns into a fiery TechnoGurl.) Keep it up.

Isn't it funny how cosmetic issues come into serious play in the PC world?! I love it!!! I am looking for the same thing Nathan! :-) I am doing research and desire to build my own PC/TV system (10x better than the ones already out there.) I am so stuck on wanting everything to match (black)! I'm so serious that I had the nerve yesterday to email Creative Labs to ask if they make their SB Live! microphone in black! (I am awaiting a response.) I remember sending Silicon Graphics an email 2 years ago asking them who designed their O2 case because it was so unique. They emailed me the company name but I don't know that I still have that info. You better believe that if my system turns out to be "grand," I will want a special designed case in multiple colors if I market it! You may want to email SG to ask the same question. Furthermore, have you seen the Mitsubishi monitors cased in red, yellow, green, blue and I think purple? Yeah, real cool! You may want to email them also to ask who designed those color monitor cases for them - they are so pretty and bright!

Well, Good luck! Post when you find something "umm, umm good!"
[I guess that since I'm a chic and all, cosmetics play a bigger role in my life than just with PCs :-) ]

Nathan: Found out that Electrograph Systems made the cool colored monitor cases for Mitsubishi. You may want to call them about system cases, etc. I will probably send them an email about it!

Their number is (800)776-5768.

I custom built 1 of my own cases out of Ebony wood. I dare not to post the price but it is by far the nicest looking case I've seen. I also spray cases with Automotive paint for friends which is a hell of alot easier and cheaper then building from scratch.

I'm back again Nathan! Here it is - I went to who I thought make the coolest cases out there - Lunar Designs in Palo Alto, CA. Their web site is www.lunar.com.

Know who they have designed most if not all cases for? Silicon Graphics (now SGI)! I commend SGI for being "cosmetically" different in their cases, especially with the purple ones.

Call Lunar, email 'em, go to their site and see their other case designs (toothbrushes, Microsoft Phone, InFocus projectors, HP.) They are hot! That's who I want to do my cases....

Good Luck!
