I'm on a very poooooooooor dial-up connection!
When I try to make a page available offline, IE 5.5 just freezes!(although an end task command i enough to get the system running again).
Has this happened to anyone else?
What could be Wrong?

Have you tried to do a repair on IE.5.? got to start\program\accessories\system information\tools\internet exployer repair tool. Run it and see if it finds any problems. If it doesn't run a system file check from the same area. Then let us know what happens.
I have had problems with IE5.5 on my win98 box. I use IE5.01 now. Plus a couple of friends have had problems with 5.5 on thier win98se boxes also.

All it did is that my dial-up screen just didn't appear, and the 'make available offline' still froze.(i try to make available the 1st level links as well!) could this be the reason?

Have you downloaded the service pack(s) for IE5.5? They took care of a lot of bugs with those. 5.5 is very stable once you get the service pack(s) installed. (Can't remember if there has been 1 or 2 service packs.)

If you've done that already, then try to repair IE. Start/Settings/Control Panel Double click Add/Remove Programs. Hilight MS Internet Explorer 5.5 and click add/remove. It will give you an option to repair it.
