Has any of you 98/2000 users tried this yet? I think it's pretty damned awesome. I thought the jump between the old one that came with 95 to the one on 98 was big.
It looks as though it will give anyone with a sound card and speakers the added features like that WOW thing and the equalizer.
I haven't seen any bugs/errors yet.

I have a few reasons for not liking it.
First of all, when I simply want to open a wav or midi file, it takes much longer than usual because the player is so big compared to the old one.
Second of all, the way music is organized into one huge list, just plain sucks.

Warthog,
Win2k has a feature that aleve's that problem. When you're in explorer and you select any type of multimedia file, a play control bar (the one from the nonversion7 media player appears on the left and you can play from there. You don't even have to open it up. It's integrated into explorer. Pretty cool.

Media Player 7 is still a beta right??

yep
Warthog...what dp you mean just one huge list? The list actually seperates the MP3's according to genre and even makes sub genre listings.
You can still optionally make a playlist if you like ( unlike with WinAmp where you HAVE to make your own lists...)
I really like the head skin too, and haven't noticed it taking longer to load than WinAmp at all.
I like it...even if it is a beta.

I haven't seen any delay in visualizations. I don't have a monster system either. Are you running it on 98 or 2000?

I know that you can have it separated by genre. The trouble is that I don't even bother to go through the 100 genres listed. So, I'm stuck with my "Classical" category consisting of "20th Century Fox" and "THX" mp3s. For mp3s, Music Match is much better. Although, I do like the animation things but they get old after awhile.

you can turn that off in the "skin selector" section. there's a mini player. anyway, if you don't like it, you don't like it. I think it's pretty cool.

To tell you the truth, I don't even have any version of media player installed in my box. I use Ultra Player and IrfanView for all images/sound/movies/etc. They work great for me, so why "fix" it.
Just my opinion, but like I said, they work great for me.
Ultra Player:

Irfan View:

Both are free and work great (for me?) The ultra player does have some ads, but they're non-intrusive, and don't effect performance.

I installed it to get a feel for it, then uninstalled it about 5 minutes later.
Yes, it looks a lot better and yes it's got a lot more functionality to it. (Anyone feel a but coming on?) BUT something like that which is integrated into so much of Windows shouldn't be such a slow-runner. I don't know specifics of hogging resources, but it certainly gives you the feeling that it is a resource-junkie. Something people will simply have to get used to since Media Player 6.0-6.4 was such a hit. Hopefully it'll be a better performer in the end.

you hit on it rh71 it sucks the processor.
I've installed all the players except winamp.
including my sound cards player C-meadia and its the worst. still very buggy thats why its beta. newer and better features and cooler looks but still buggy.
heres a list;
1.resource hog.
2.slow loading.
3.slow to respond.
4.very dominant takes over other players media even when checked not too.
BEST and smoothest player I've found was music match.
thats my thoughts
I put MP7 on my 2K box. It's only a moderate system and it runs every bit as fast as WinAmp, sounds as good, and runs videos better than MP6.4. Doesn't seem to be a resource hog at all. No worse than WinAmp anyway. I still use WinAmp for MP3 because of the playlists though. That and I have some cool Radiohead skins for it. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Well the video plugins are quite slow on my compu. I have win98, but does win2000 accelerates these video plugins? I also noticed that when I go to the "mini" player (which still looks huge on my 1024x768 desktop) the edges are kinda jagged, will win2000 solve this? (It supports some sort of alpha blending technique doesn't it?)

Once again I tried to make a post and everything I typed dissapeared. Pooof. Gone. What the #$%# is going on. This is the third time that this has happened. I'll copy everthing to my clipboard from now on. There should be no reason for this to happen. Any suggestions?
OOOO ya. If MS won't support NT, Who will? There media player always sucked. The slow forward/backward never works, Blah.......Blah............. and so on.
Well lets see if this post works...

MP7 works great I think.. Yeah it sucks a lot of your resources, but the quality that it brings is a big jump.. So quality wise, MP7, speed MP6.4.. There's also another thing that I like on WinME, the image viewer. It has the capability to zoom the image when you view it on IE... Is that available to D/L as well to add on win98SE and where can I get it??

there are several things i dont like about mp7:
-rips only to WMA format (no mp3) so i get a file name of "unknown artist- track x"
- cannot name the cd so that you dont get the above unless you go online to look for it
-slow to open and/or detect my cdrom
-big and bulky
